All Granada Banger Meeting

812 kw

Following the untimely loss of Coventry Stadium as a venue for short-oval racing, a number of Banger drivers have noted that there was no longer a fixture on shale for all-Granada National Bangers in 2017 and with King's Lynn never having staged one of these meetings before we have had numerous drivers approach us and ask if we will run one at the Adrian Flux Arena in 2017.  In response to this, Trackstar are pleased to announce that a date for this format has been secured at King’s Lynn on Saturday 19th August as part of an existing meeting on the Trackstar fixture list.  The entry of Micro National Bangers accepted for this date will be limited in order to run Granadas as an additional feature.

The specification for the meeting is straightforward.  All cars are to be built to ORCi Unlimited National Banger rules as will be in force at the date of the meeting – e.g. including any changes to rules that become effective between now and then.  We are going to run the meeting as a pre-85 format and will therefore be accepting Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3 Granadas to race, but drivers should note that Mk3 Granadas should be of the hatchback variety, rather than the booted saloon version (sometimes referred to as a Mk4) which was a much later development of the Mk3.

In keeping with all Trackstar meetings in 2017, the prize fund on this meeting will reward a variety of drivers in the form of prize money for race positions, together with a range of car presentation and race entertainer awards.  Bookings will be taken through the Trackstar office on 01553 771111 or 07939 580652.

***Since announcing our all-Granada meeting just a few hours ago, we would like to thank drivers who have already given the meeting a great response.  Initially we announced that the only Mk3 Granadas to be permitted at the meeting would be the Hatchback body style.  This was felt to be the best compromise between opening up the meeting to a greater number of cars and also considering the views of some drivers who suggested that the meeting should only be for Mk1 and Mk2 Granadas.  The Mk3 Granada Saloon (1990 onwards) and Estate (1992 onwards) were felt to be the stronger and newer cars from the Mk3 range and therefore the ones which some people would prefer to be excluded.

However, the response to the meeting is already strong enough that we are able to guarantee that there will be at least two heats for Mk1 and Mk2 Granadas only.  Because of this, we have also decided to open up the meeting to all styles of Mk3 Granada – hatchback, saloon, estate, hearse and limo.  The only versions now excluded are the later ‘Frogeye’ cars.  Hopefully this decision will enable more drivers to find a suitable car to race if they wish to do so. Please note that all Mk3 Granadas should remain on original suspension with 5 stud wheels.

We have also received a number of enquiries about engines and can confirm that we are not insisting on age-related engine swaps at this meeting.  Therefore, any engine can be used subject to the normal ORCi Unlimited Banger rule that the engine used may not have a larger capacity than the engine range originally available in the car as supplied direct from the manufacturer to the UK marketplace.
