Introduction

Part two of another feast of Stock Car and Banger Racing action at the Adrian Flux Arena this weekend comes on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon (2 May, 1pm). The annual Banger Battle of the Sexes takes centre stage, while Micro Bangers, Reliant Robins and Junior Bangers will also provide much entertainment.

DRIVERS PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU ARE LOOKING AT RACING BUT NOT LISTED BELOW YOU NEED TO BOOK IN ASAP ON 01553 771111 OR 07939 580652. ALSO IF YOU APPEAR BELOW BUT CAN NO LONGER RACE YOU MUST CANCEL ASAP ON THE SAME NUMBERS.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS MEETING IS NOW FULLY BOOKED - ANY DRIVER TURNING UP WHO IS NOT LISTED BELOW AS BOOKED IN TO RACE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RACE.

 

There are currently 94 Micro Bangers, 42 cars in the Banger Battle of the Sexes, 15 Reliant Robins and 21 Junior Bangers booked in to race.

 

Drivers please note that the pits open at 10am and your early arrival will be appreciated. Drivers turning up in the last hour could well find themselves missing their first race.

 

Banger Battle of the Sexes

Here is the chance to prove which sex are the better drivers, with two big teams ready to do battle. After the men were victorious last season, the ladies now have a point to prove.

The ladies team is full of all the top Lady Banger racers, including 3 Danielle Hewitt who currently holds all three major titles in Lady Bangers and has plenty of other racing experience to draw on. She will be looking to lead the line alongside the likes of 74 Caroline Garner and 477 Amy Brown, while 79 Stacy Lightfoot is likely to be another pacesetter, if she can avoid trouble.

Several of the men racing are husbands, partners or brothers of the ladies, which should add some extra spice. 85 James Ellis comes into that category – he and Danielle Hewitt will be getting married the day before the meeting; what better way to celebrate than to smash each other up on track?!

Expect plenty of action in the Battle of the Sexes as we look to settle the ago old question of whether men or women are the better drivers!

Recently crowned East Anglian champion in Unlimited Bangers, 757 Callum Gill, and the man he deposed from that title, 821 Ryan Preston, are part of the powerhouse line-up that the men have assembled.

Predators racer 79 Ricky Twell and Gladiators 349 Lewis Price and 549 Phil Smith are also sure to liven up proceedings.

 

Micro Bangers

More conventional Banger Racing comes in the form of Micro Bangers. They might be little in size but the hits these cars dish out and the punishment they can take is anything but small.

Some of the drivers competing in the Battle of the Sexes will be doubling-up in this class too, including the UK Champion 337 Ashley Garrod and his elder brother 338 Terry Garrod. They will be joined by third brother 339 Jack Garrod and fellow Team Jackpot local 341 Austen Freestone.

Other top-line drivers include former World Champions 390 David Gibson and 399 Jonny Atkin, plus 830 Lee White and National Points championship contender 322 Tom Fox.

There are plenty of Micro specialists in the field, including 104 Paul Brown Jr, 355 Mick Walker and 566 Tony Pallett.

The huge entry is packed with drivers whose primary objective is just to have fun whilst entertaining the crowd with some good crashes. Out to cause as much mayhem as possible will be 155 Sam Coote, 392 Sam Baines and 851 Adam ‘The Intimidator’ Storr.

Reliant Robins

The crazy antics of the three-wheeled brigade are sure to delight the crowd, with rollovers galore and much shedding of splintered bodywork.

Multiple champion 85 James Ellis heads the entry, doubling up with Battle of the Sexes. 70 Sophie Unwin is another racing in two categories – in her case it is Robins and Micro Bangers.

Reliant Robins always produce lots of action! 

385 Roy Gedge and 576 Colin Aldred will be among the pacesetters if the mood takes them, but they are just ask likely to be the root of some spectacular crashes.

Havoc is never far away from 185 Ben Oliver and 664 Ryan Sutcliffe – they will certainly be ones to watch.

Junior Bangers

The under-16 year-old stars of the future will also be putting on a show. With many recent graduates now competing well in the adult formulas, there’s no denying the ability of these young drivers.

 

487 Owen Ketteringham has had a great start to the season

As is often the case with this formula, bookings were a little slow to come in at the time of writing, with many more expected to be in action on the day.

However, the likes of 61 John Klyn, 308 Adam Richardson and 340 Will Brazier will definitely be pacesetters, while the very healthy White grade is indicative of the buoyancy of this formula.

Fairground Ride

All of the fin of the fair will be at the Adrian Flux Arena this Saturday with the return of the Fun House which contains lots for the kids to go on before the meeting and during races. The good news for mum and dad is that it is free for kids to go on and they can go on it as often as they like!!!
