Introduction
The Easter weekend action continues on Easter Monday when the Wacky Races come to town. Bangers of the 2-Litre and Lady variety provide the more conventional action, while SUV Bangers, Reliant Robins and a caravan race definitely make things wacky!
Currently there are 31 2L Bangers, 21 Lady Bangers, 15 Reliant Robins, 11 4x4 SUV Bangers and 6 Caravans booked in to race..
We are currently expecting 30 2L Bangers, 21 Lady Bangers, 15 Reliant Robins, 11 4x4 SUV Bangers and 6 Caravans to be in action.
The drivers list will continue to be updated with additions and cancelations every day at 2pm up to the meeting
Drivers are reminded that if they are a 2L Banger, 4x4 Bangers or Reliant Robin and turn up to race without being booked in they will not receive their Start Money and and Lady Bangers turning up without being booked in will not receive their complimentary admissions.
Any driver booked in to race who does not race and does not cancel their booking will have to pay a fine before they are allowed to race again
Drivers can book in or cancel through the drivers booking in form or by E Mailing trackstar@norfolkarena.co.uk or texting 07939580652 or phoning 01553 771111.
2-Litre Bangers
As well as it being their second World Qualifying Round of the season, the 2-Litre Banger also contest their annual Commentators Cup, which is presented to the day’s highest scorer.
Swaffham’s 337 Ashley Garrod has been second and third in the Commentators Cup for the past two years and so will hoping to make the top step of the podium this time around. 597 Andy Ashman is a likely challenger, while 8 James Jackson and 90 Simon Chapman have been recent race winners.
90 Simon Chapman has been a recent winner in the 2L Bangers
Elsewhere, it’s entertainment city, with a host of drivers more interested in crashing than racing for wins. While Mad Hatters pairing 390 David Gibson and 399 Jonny Atkin are certainly capable of winning – indeed, Atkin was the 2012 World Champion – the team is better known for its entertainment, none more so than 392 Sam Baines, who never says no to a good crash.
392 Sam Baines - never says no to a good crash!!
519 Lee Middleton represents the Predators. Another former World Champion who races in the colours of a crash-happy team is 515 Gareth Flatters, in his case the Aftermath, where he will be joined by 604 Ross Cooper.
A five-strong showing of Shunters, 111 Geoff Street, 512 Lewis Harvey, 513 Sean Harvey, 514 Charlie Taylor and 768 Danny McSweeney, can be relied upon to keep things lively.
513 Lewis Harvey and the Shunters can be expected to be heavily involved in the action!
Lady Bangers
The ladies had their first outing of the season here two weeks ago, with wins falling to 4 Stephanie Street and 660 Bridgett Woolley (heats), before 781 Michelle Payne took the final from the white grade. All are booked to race again this weekend.
Payne is the early-season points leader (prior to the ladies’ trip to Coventry last weekend), but second in the standings is returnee 477 Amy Brown. The former gold and silver roof could be the lady to beat in 2014.
Street will be joined by sister 444 Natasha this time, while local ladies 79 Stacey Lightfoot and 85 Kate Calver are two more star graders more than capable of winning races, as are 762 Kerry Thurgill and 897 Abbie Smith.
444 Natasha Street - makes her first appearance of the season on Monday
The lady bangers will also be being sponsored and doing a collection to raise funds to purchase toys for the Rudham Ward, King's Lynn in memory of Riley Key
Wacky Bangers
The wackier side of the proceedings comes from two formulas that fall apart and one that’s tougher than most!
Caravan racing always provide a hilarious spectacle. Easter Monday’s event will see the drivers struggling to keep their trailers in one piece as they hurtle round the bends.
Caravan races always produce lots of spectacular incidents
Disintegration is often the end result in Reliant Robins too as keeping all three wheels on the ground can be tricky! The entry is headed by National Points Champion 85 James Ellis, in his second outing of the weekend, plus World of Shale Champion 704 Stuart Henderson and multiple former champion 702 Allen Cooper. But the field is full of entertainers who prefer to spend more time rolling than racing!
Expect the Reliant Robins to produce plenty of spectacular incidents
In contrast, the SUVs can withstand almost anything and have provided some cracking entertainment in their few appearances since first being introduced a couple of years ago.
The virtually indestructable 4x4 SUV Bangers also produce lots of spectacular incidents
Kids Rides
Looking for a way to entertain the kids in between races? To help keep the little ones happy the majority of King’s Lynn meetings will have a selection of kids rides which are all free to go on and there will be four rides for kids to go on for free at the 21 April meeting together with free face painting and other great attractions.
