Introduction
This week’s action at the Adrian Flux Arena features BriSCA Formula Two Stock Cars in a World of Shale qualifying round, plus a double-helping of Bangers. Micro Bangers contest the UK Championship, while it’s the King of the Fens for Two-Litre Bangers in non-Mondeo format.
THERE ARE NOW A LIMITED NUMBER OF SPACES LEFT FOR THIS MEETING. ANY DRIVER INTERESTED IN RACING SHOULD RING 07939 580652 ASAP
There are currently 96 Micro Bangers, 39 F2 Stock Cars and 25 2L (Non Mondeo) Bangers booked in to race.
Drivers please note that the pits open at 2pm and your early arrival will be appreciated. Drivers turning up in the last hour could well find themselves missing their first race.
BriSCA Formula Two Stock Cars
The final World of Shale qualifying round features a surprise entry for national points champion-elect 7 Gordon Moodie, who seems to have re-found his love for shale racing , even if results at the last two big meetings haven’t gone his way.
Currently leading the World of Shale points is 226 Billy Webster, who also tops the King’s Lynn track championship standings. But the real form man at the track is 606 Andrew Palmer who has claimed a heat and final double in each of his last two meetings. Can he continue that superb run of form this weekend, and maybe even convert it into stock car racing’s equivalent of a nine-dart finish or a 147 in snooker? The 50-point maximum for winning heat, final and grand national is a very rarely achieved feat, given the full lap handicap required in the GN for the final winner. But if anyone can do it, it’s Palmer.
That trio will face plenty of strong competition, including defending World of Shale Champion 871 Mark Simpson and former champions 13 Andy Ford and 905 Rob Mitchell. English Champion 38 Dave Polley and 823 Sam Wagner are two of the country’s leading shale racers, while 377 Daz Shaw and 788 Stephen Mallinson complete the top three in the WoS points.
It has been a breakthrough year on the shale for 298 Jake Walker who ran so well in the World Semi-Finals here in August, while UK Champion 560 Luke Wrench impressed at the World Final meeting at Mildenhall. No one impressed there more than 662 Steve Wycherley, who placed second in the World and is sweating on getting his engine back from a service in time for this weekend’s meeting.
Wycherley won the White & Yellow grade final at the track last year, with the 2016 edition set to open proceedings at this weekend’s meeting.
Micro Bangers
The UK Championship has attracted another big entry of the little cars, headed by defending champion 337 Ashley Garrod. He and his brother 339 Jack Garrod will start among the favourites for this year’s title.
Riding the crest of a wave for the past couple of months, across all classes, has been the new World of Shale Champion, 88 Lyndon Stark. Will he be able to continue his fantastic streak this weekend?
322 Tom Fox has proved himself a fine allrounder in his first season as a Trackstar driver and would love to scoop the title to cap his season in style. 830 Lee White is another consistent frontrunner well-deserving of a title.
A whole host of Micro specialists will also fancy their chances. The likes of 99 Ricky Garrod and 566 Tony Pallett come into that category, while 104 Paul Brown and 601 Chris Medler will also be contenders. 1300cc Stock Car racer 340 Wes Freestone loves his Micro Bangers and certainly has the speed to win but may well have his mind set on spoiling others’ chances.
Beyond that, there will be a huge number of drivers more interested in putting on a show and having a good crash. ‘Captain Slow’ 155 Sam Coote, 282 Bobby ‘Mr Mad’ Daniels, 579 Gary ‘Mr Clumsy’ Beecham and 43 Nicky Bishop should be going all-out to entertain the crowd, as will 851 Adam ‘The Intimidator’ Storr and Shunters duo 513 Sean Harvey and 514 Charlie Taylor.
Two-Litre (Non Mondeo) Bangers
Defending the King of the Fens title will be Wisbech youngster 11 Ryan Leeks who has developed into a very committed allrounder. He, like Stark, White, the Garrod brothers, Brown and several others will be in for a busy night, doing double duty in both formulas.
Among the non-Mondeo specialists are top Vauxhall driver 116 Nat Cohn and material maestro 557 Paul ‘Paranoid’ Bowen.
Others to watch out for include Predators duo 79 Ricky Twell and 178 Kieran Bowman, who are sure to get stuck in.
