Introduction
After a busy Easter weekend, racing returns to the Adrian Flux Arena on Saturday night (18 April, 6pm - pre meeting races from 5.30pm), with four formulas set to provide an action-packed night of racing. The mighty Two-Litre Saloon Stock Cars top the bill and will be ably supported by the smaller 1300cc versions. Crash-happy 1500cc Bangers always thrill the crowd while Lady Bangers offer plenty of exciting racing.
There are currently 54 1500cc Bangers, 42 2L Stock Cars, 30 1300 Stock Cars and 28 Lady Bangers booked in to race.
We are currently expecting 54 1500cc Bangers Bangers, 42 2L Stock Cars, 30 1300 Stock Cars and 28 Lady Bangers to be in action.
This booking in list will be continually updated.
Drivers are reminded that if they turn up to race unbooked they may not be allowed to race.
Any driver booked in to race who does not race and does not cancel their booking will have to pay a fine before they are allowed to race again
Drivers can book in or cancel through the drivers booking in form or by E Mailing trackstar@norfolkarena.co.uk or texting 07939580652 or phoning 01553 771111.
1500cc Bangers
After a fantastic showing over Easter, brothers 337 Ashley and 338 Terry Garrod lead the way in the Bangers National Points and both will be on the hunt for more success this weekend. They will be joined once more another brother, 339 Jack, who also had a very good day on Easter Monday.
They will face competition on track from the usual 1500 mixture of Banger Racing all-rounders and 1500cc specialists. World Champion 390 David Gibson and Supreme Champion 22 Dave Vincent certainly fall into the former camp.
Arguably, most of Gibson’s Mad Hatters team-mates are all-rounders nowadays too, but it’s probably fair to say that most of their success – including entertainers awards and destruction derby wins – comes in these smaller cars. The likes of 392 Sam Baines, 399 Jonny Atkin and Gibson’s younger brother 309 Liam all like nothing better than getting stuck in and entertaining the crowd.
Similarly, Stark brothers 88 Lyndon, 886 Lewis and 888 Lloyd, plus their team-mate 601 Chris Medler, race most Bangers, but it is the 1500s where they are perhaps most successful.
Two more locals who will race anything are 271 Ashlun Woods and 791 Nicky Young. The higher graded drivers in the early entry list are completed by new Trackstar licensee 830 Lee White, who we are very pleased to have on board, and 321 Keiran Fry, a welcome visitor from the south who will wear his Bears colours with pride.
Much of the remainder of the entry is made up of the 1500cc Banger specialists and is filled with drivers who will be on track purely to have fun, have a big crash, send the crowd home happy and enjoy themselves while they are at it.
Two-Litre Saloon Stock Cars
The Heavy Metal Brigade have already served up three thrilling meetings at King’s Lynn in 2015, with massive turnouts providing superb action in every race. The meetings so far have averaged fields of 44 cars, with a huge 47 in action last time out on Easter Saturday.
The final winner two weeks ago was 360 Carl Waterfield after 698 Danny Colliver had secured the 25-and-under Championship of Great Britain (which doubled up as heat one), while outgoing champion 306 Daniel Parker was also a winner on the night. Both Parker and Waterfield will be back chasing the chequered flag again on Saturday.
Parker will as ever be joined by his father 304 Martyn who is another who has impressed so far in 2015 and looks set to rise back up the grades from next month.
Making his debut this weekend will be Wisbech racer 321 Marcus Skeels. The “Crazy Frog” steps up from Ministox where he raced mainly on the shale at Mildenhall. We also expect to see 575 Ryan Boughen for the first time – Ryan is another newcomer to the formula who made his debut at Northampton on Good Friday.
The bulk of the field will of course be made up by the usual suspects, several of whom, like 18 Jamie Clayton, are still seeking their first wins of the year. That puts them in the same boat as defending track champion 499 David Aldous. It surely won’t be long before that is put right, but is an illustration of just how competitive this formula is.
1300cc Stock Cars
The smaller stock cars make their third appearance at the track this season, though they have also already notched up a few away meetings, with a good number of drivers having visited Coventry and Sheffield in particular.
In terms of racking up the points, two men have been dominant so far. Defending silver roof holder 340 Wes Freestone has hit the ground running in 2015 and added the World of Shale title to his name at Sheffield last month. While at the other end of the starting grid, 400 Kevin Shinn has made the most of a generous white grading to notch up three wins, including two on Easter Saturday when he very nearly went through the card. He will find things a little tougher from the yellow grade, but even that might not stop him.
Running mates 702 Allen Cooper and 704 Stuart Henderson scooped the wins at our season opener, while 780 Simon Sparrow was a double winner on the road at Coventry. All will be looking to add to their tally this weekend.
In keeping with his attitude of racing purely for fun, 85 James Ellis has moved to a rear-wheel drive Toyota Starlet this year and hasn’t hit quite the same heights as a result. But if anyone can tame the car, he can, and he must surely remain a threat, along with former World of Shale Champion 409 Carlos Pears.
Lady racers 444 Natasha Street and 653 Gemma Rainer have both proved themselves on the pace, with Gemma seeking to go one better than her runners-up position in the final last time out.
We welcome yet another debutant to join a well-subscribed white grade this weekend, in the shape of 940 George Adams.
Lady Bangers
The ladies impressed with some hard-hitting action in their season-opener last month, and with the entry shaping up to be more than decent, numbers-wise, once more, we could be in for more of the same.
National points champion 369 Jane Allard is set to make her first appearance of the season and will face strong competition from the back of the grid from the likes of Gold Roof champion 4 Steph Street, plus former title winners 3 Danielle Hewitt and 477 Amy Brown.
Towards the front of the grid, there are plenty of more than capable peddlers, however, including new White & Yellow Grade Series Champion 818 Tiff Collins and former winner 85 Kate Calver.
They will all need to watch out for the likes of 609 Georgina Norton who impressed on the crashing front last time out.
Fairground Rides
We make sure that the kids are entertained before the meeting and between races with a fantastic fairground ride. The good news for mum and dad is that the ride is free and kids can go on it as often as they like!
