Introduction
After a three week break, Stock Car and Banger Racing returns to the Adrian Flux Arena on Saturday night (21 May, 5:30pm) with the annual Bandit Memorial for Unlimited and Two-Litre Bangers, plus a Formula Two Stock Car World of Shale qualifying round.
DRIVERS PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU ARE LOOKING AT RACING BUT NOT LISTED BELOW YOU NEED TO BOOK IN ASAP ON 01553 771111 OR 07939 580652. ALSO IF YOU APPEAR BELOW BUT CAN NO LONGER RACE YOU MUST CANCEL ASAP ON THE SAME NUMBERS.
There are currently 49 Unlimited Bangers, 41 2L Bangers and 51 BriSCA F2 Stock Cars booked in to race.
Drivers please note that the pits open at 2pm and your early arrival will be appreciated. Drivers turning up in the last hour could well find themselves missing their first race.
Unlimited Bangers
Another big entry of Unlimited Bangers brings some of the sport’s biggest stars to the Arena, including a rare appearance from Spedeworth’s Unlimited Banger World Champion (and, let’s not forget, three-time Trackstar World Champion in years gone by), 617 Jack Overy.
If he’s going to win on his return to the track that is only 30 miles from his Ely base, Overy will have to overcome the current form man in Unlimited Bangers, 18-year-old 757 Callum Gill. The Lynn local claimed the East Anglian Championship last time out, one of three wins on the night for the youngster. He also tops the World of Shale qualifying points after an impressive run of form that begun towards the end of last season.

Two more drivers likely to feature at the sharp end, as they have their own ambitions of points titles, are former silver roof holder 338 Terry Garrod and new recruit to the Trackstar scene in 2016, 322 Tom Fox. Fox’s mentor, 22 Dave Vincent, who focusses his attentions on Unlimiteds nowadays will also be a strong contender.

Another driver in excellent form so far this season is 399 Jonny Atkin. He will be joined by his Mad Hatters team-mates 390 David Gibson and 392 Sam Baines. While Gibson in particular can race with the best of them, that trio is more likely to be found in the middle of a big crash.

Also likely to be reverting to entertainer mode after winning the White & Yellow Grade series final last time out is the popular 791 Nicky ‘Spud’ Young. Brother 790 Nathan Young and Wild Boyz pairing 43 Nicky Bishop and 149 Wayne Bailey should manage to wreak some havoc too.
There is another visit from The Bears’ 266 Callum Hall, while Michael ‘Bandit’ Bailey’s hard-hitting Predators team are set to be represented by 178 Kieran Bowman.
Two-Litre Bangers
A very healthy entry of Two-Litre Bangers will be competing for their own version of the Bandit Memorial, with this meeting also being the last World Championship qualifying round ahead of August’s World Final. It is therefore a last chance to make the grid for the big race – can veteran 701 Kevin Cooper, nowadays a two-litre specialist, secure his umpteenth qualification?
There is always plenty going on in 2L Banger Racing
Several drivers will be doubling-up across both Banger categories, so top marks to them. They include Garrod and his brother 339 Jack, Fox, Atkin, Gibson, 601 Chris Medler and 830 Lee White as well as several more from the lower grades.
The Predators will be out in greater numbers in the Mondeo-dominated category, with Bowman joined by 404 Luke Brinton and 479 Joel Allen.
There are welcome visits from RDC duo 328 Daniel Lathan and 326 Shane Lynn. Lathan is a true all-rounder, and while Lynn is also capable of race wins, he is more likely to be involved in the crashing action. That is also likely to be case for Two-litre specialists 599 Matt Butcher and Aftermath pairing 100 Callum White and 285 Shaun Dyer. 100 Callum White is also likely to be making his presence felt in the 2L Bangers as he continues to rack up Entertainer League points.

Formula Two Stock Cars
The BriSCA F2s return just three weeks after their last outing when 995 Michael Lund took his first-ever King’s Lynn final win at the wheel of his Zetec-powered new self-built car. That win elevates him to the red grade from where the going will theoretically be tougher, but the Lancashire driver should still be very competitive.

There is a strong entry of stars and superstars. The latter category includes first-time superstar 226 Billy Webster who has had a superb start to 2016, and currently leads the track championship, as well as the indefatigable 38 Dave Polley, one of the country’s leading all-rounders and surely among the favourites to strike gold this year.

World of Shale Champion 871 Mark Simpson is arguably in the form of his life at the moment. Few can get close to him on his preferred surface of shale. Fellow Lincolnshire veteran 103 Carl Issitt and Lancashire’s 788 Stephen Mallinson are two more very experienced drivers who are super-fast on the loose.

Former World of Shale Champions come in the shape of 606 Andrew Palmer, 905 Rob Mitchell and 977 Dave Massey in this star-studded line-up.
That is only scratching the surface of the star names, before we come to the local specialists who don’t race often enough elsewhere to rise too far up the national points charts, and therefore have the advantage of starting nearer the front – 630 Justin Parker is a fine example. Kings Lynn local 715 Scott Aldridge will also be looking to add to his win tally.
This meeting is the F2s’ last outing at King’s Lynn before their all-important world semi-finals in August, and so offers a final opportunity for practice on the super-smooth Saddlebow Road shale. We therefore welcome a few drivers not often seen at the track with a first time visit from 88 Stefan Miller, the Buxton/Skegness 1300cc Stock Car Gold Roof Champion.
Long-distance travellers come in the form of Dutchmen H305 Ron van Wamelen – who has had plenty of good runs at the track before.
Fairground Ride
All of the fun of the fair will be at the Adrian Flux Arena this Saturday with the return of the Helter Skelter which is great fun for the kids to go on before the meeting and during races. The good news for mum and dad is that it is free for kids to go on and they can go on it as often as they like!!!
