Introduction

Stock car racing returns to the Adrian Flux Arena on Saturday night (24 September, 5:30pm) with a triple bill of hard-hitting formulas, headlined by the third round of the Shootout Series for BriSCA Formula One stock cars. They will be ably supported by Two-Litre and 1300cc stock cars, with all three formulas’ recently crowned World Champions in action.

Bookings are still available for this meeting and can be made for 1300 Stock Cars on 07939 580652 or by E Mailing trackstar@norfolkarena.co.uk. Any driver listed but no longer able to race should cancel their booking asap on the same number.

F1 drivers should book in and cancel through BSCDA secretary Sophie Clarke whilst 2L Stock Cars should book in and cancel through SSCA secretary Marion Farrow.

There are currently 42 F1 Stock Cars, 43 2L Stock Cars and 40 1300cc Stock Cars booked in to race.

Drivers please note that the pits open at 2pm and your early arrival will be appreciated. Drivers turning up in the last hour could well find themselves missing their first race.

BriSCA Formula One

After claiming his third World title at Coventry three weeks ago, #1 Frankie Wainman Jr will be showing off his new number and gold roof, after an incredible season that also taken him to the British title and seen rapid progress from his two children in their racing careers.

 1

1 Frankie Wainman will be showing of the gold roof for the first time on Saturday

Wainman will be joined by his younger brother #212 Danny Wainman, with both being contenders in the end-of-season Shootout for the silver roof. Son #555 Frankie Wainman Jr Jr will also be in action, having just missed out on a place in the Shootout after his own superb season.

Currently leading the Shootout standings after the opening two rounds is 445 Nigel Green. The Leicester man has the joined the superstar ranks for the first time this season and has always had his eye on the silver roof which he feels is a true barometer of success.

445

445 Nigel Green currently leads the Shootout Points

After Wainman in second, comes former World Champion #2 Paul Harrison who impressed at Skegness last weekend, and Norfolk’s own #16 Mat Newson, one of the most committed drivers in the sport and a perennial challenger who always seems to miss out on the luck just when he needs it.

A consolation and final double at Skegness last weekend means that #318 Rob Speak remains firmly in contention to take the title in this, his final year of racing after a glittering career.

 318

Opportunities to see 318 Rob Speak in action are running out

King’s Lynn specialist and top entertainer 150 Mick Sworder will fancy his chances this weekend, while defending champion #4 Dan Johnson and former champion #55 Craig Finnikin could do with big scores to boost their standings.

Third place in the World Final proved #217 Lee Fairhurst’s shale credentials again, but he and #220 Will Hunter are probably outsiders for the title and could do with bagging some large hauls of points whilst 84 Tom Harris is always a driver you can't take your eyes off around King's Lynn.

Away from the shootout 22 Will Yarrow and 335 Mark Woodhull look a big threat from the blues whilst 207 Ben Hurdman and 338 Chris Brocksopp are real dangers from the yellows.

463 roll

335 Mark Woodhull wil be giving the shootout drivers something to think about on Saturday!

76 Aaron Cozens won the White & Yellows race last time out and is always quick around Lynn whilst 405 Keith Palmer will be out in an F1 for the first time in nearly twenty years!

Two-Litre Saloon Stock Cars

The annually contested Bumper Trophy is up for grabs for the Saloons this weekend with the usual enhanced prize fund arranged by ace photographer Kevin Wickham. Defending the title will be Spalding’s #214 Tom Yould who often seems to step up a gear in the closing weeks of the season. Despite the Bumper Trophy now celebrating it's tenth anniversary amazingly no driver has ever got their name on it twice which perhaps serves to stress the unpredicatable and competitive nature of this formula!

24maysalb

214 Tom Yould won the Bumper Trophy last year and wll no doubt be hoping to be back in the winner's circle on Saturday rather than doing his acrobatic routine!

Other past winners in the field are the current National Champion, #428 Lee Sampson, and ORC Champion #499 David Aldous.

The entry is headed by World Champion #6 Simon Welton. The Norwich-based driver is on a high, having successfully defended his world title at Skegness last weekend. In doing so, he became only the second man to lift the crown on both shale and tarmac, and the first to do so in consecutive years.

6

6 Simon Welton come on the back of a great defence of his world title last weekend

European Champion #641 Willie Skoyles Jr and English Champion #217 Sid Madgwick complete quintet of major title holders in the field.

As this is the penultimate outing of the year for the Heavy Metal Brigade at King’s Lynn, the race for the track championship is reaching its climax. #349 Michael Allard currently holds a single point advantage over Aldous who has won the title in each of the last six years. Welton also remains in contention, 19 points further back. Behind that trio come #570 Simon Venni, #306 Daniel Parker and national points leader #730 Deane Mayes who will all be in action this weekend after excellent seasons, but are a little too far back to challenge for the track championship.

349

The penultimate round of the 2L Stock Car Track Championship sees 349 Michael Allard with a single point lead over 499 David Aldous - Aldous is looking for a record breaking seventh successive title.

Among the host of other names in another power-packed entry list, mention must go to #218 Jacob Downey, who took his new car to third in the World Championship last weekend, #304 Martyn Parker, dominator in wet conditions last time out, and #733 Kyle Picton, who after a late start to the season has been on a superb run of form.

1300cc Stock Cars

World Champion #333 Daniel Weavers tops the booking list in the smaller stock car category. He has dominated this year and is close to wrapping up the National Points Championship too.

333 Dan "Cuddles" Weaver has dominated the 1300cc Stock Cars this season

Current holder of the silver roof is #340 Wes Freestone who has struggled to remain at the sharp end this season in his venerable Vauxhall Nova amongst such large fields of cars.

Spalding’s #216 Dan Booth recently reclaimed the World of Shale title from Freestone and will be proudly displaying the twin gold stripes this weekend.

Lady racer #317 Lauren Overy will be hoping for better luck than befell her in the Midland Championship at Northampton last weekend, while others to watch out for include Wes’s brother #341 Austen Freestone, provided he gets on top of his mechanical maladies, the returning #704 Stuart Henderson, and #316 Danny McCluskey who really should be far too good for the white grade.

Former Junior Banger racer 524 Amy Latham makes her debut in the formula where her father 324 Mark Latham will also be in action for the first time this season
