BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars
The big talking-point about this weekend’s meeting is whether 515 Frankie Wainman Jr can become the first man to win three consecutive finals at King’s Lynn. Given his form to date, you wouldn’t bet against him. If Wainman can pull off this feat and go in the history books he will be rewarded with an enhanced final winners pot of £1000 - will it be a grand in the hand for Frankie on Saturday!? The final will also have enhanced poignency with the Mo Jones Memorial being staged - a race in memory of the popular wife of Pit Marshall Gary Jones which was won last year by 150 Mick Sworder!
Will 515 Frankie Wainman go in the history books by winning the third F1 Stock Car Final on the bounce this Saturday and also take home an enhanced purse of £1000
FWJ’s brother 212 Danny Wainman, with his new car, and son 555 Frankie Wainman Jr Jr will also be targeting success as will 2016 first-time superstar 445 Nigel Green who clearly means business this year.
445 Nigel Green has been a revelation and clearly means business this year
Local interest comes from perennial superstar 16 Mat Newson and fellow Norfolk driver 372 Colin Goodswen.
Other than Wainman, race wins last time out (four weeks ago) went to 280 Colin Nairn, 244 Mick Rogers, 127 Austin Moore – who looked very impressive from the white grade – 198 Nigel Whalley and 446 Joe Booth. All except Moore and Whalley had confirmed their bookings at the time of writing and will be hoping for repeat performances – or better! – this weekend.
280 Colin Nairn was jumping for joy after getting in the winner's circle last time out
Others to have caught the eye so far in 2016 include young guns 25 Bradley Harrison and 28 Thomas Boyer, whose careers appear to be on rapidly climbing trajectories, 166 Bobby Griffin and 169 Billy Johnson.
25 Bradley Harrison has greatly impressed this year
But, as is always the case with these unlimited-power, earthshaking V8 monsters, anything can happen on track – and usually does.
Two-Litre Saloon Stock Cars
There is yet another big entry for the Heavy Metal Brigade at their spiritual home, with the World, National and English Champions all set to be in action.
2L Stock Cars always produce plenty of action
It will be five weeks since the saloon stox last raced at King’s Lynn, when the English Championship was won in impressive style by 217 Sid Madgwick. He will have the St George’s cross resplendent on his car’s roof this weekend.
Super 217 Sid Madgwick will be making his first Lynn appearance since winning the English Championship last month
The two drivers that Madgwick overtook on the final bend of that race – World Champion 6 Simon Welton and 570 Simon Venni – are also due in action and will be keen to get one over Madgwick... and everyone else in the field!
The last bend of the English saw 217 Sid Madgwick move long time leads 6 Simon Welton and 570 Simon Venni to take victory - will the two Simons take recenge on Saturday?
National and ORC champion 499 David Aldous is the man to beat at King’s Lynn, but the multiple track champion has had an up-and-down start to the season and will be looking for a bit more consistency.
National points leader 730 Deane Mayes is bound to feature at the sharp end, as are former English Champion 306 Daniel Parker and Driver of the Year winner 641 Willie Skoyles Jr.
Expect 730 Deane Mayes to be featuring at the deep end
327 Clayton Mallett and 888 Shane Emerson sewed up the heats between them on English Championship night and will be aiming to continue that kind of form.
Others bound to be in contention include 218 Jacob Downey and 360 Carl Waterfield, while 26 Tommy Barnes should be dangerous from the yellow grade.
Expect 360 Carl Waterfield to be in contention
74 Tam Tweedie and 600 Barry Russell are welcome visitors from Scotland, with Russell in particular likely to pose a threat to the locals.
Junior Bangers
The Junior Banger entry is headed by World Champion 364 Bradley Lee and English and Points Champio 997 Wayne Cottrill Jnr. Following a recent final win at Eastbourne, Cottrill will be keen to get his Lynn form back in top gear.
997 Wayne Cottrill Jnr always goes well in the Junior Bangers
340 Will Brazier won the last final at Lynn and will be determined to go for a repeat performance from the blues. Expect 608 Lennie Murkin to also go well.
608 Lennie Murkin is always in the action
148 Jamie Blything was also a race winner from the yellows last time and will be short odds for a repeat performance.
114 Luke Spinks made his Junior Banger debut last time out and went very well in a very smart car even managing a top ten finish.
Fairground Ride
All of the fin of the fair will be at the Adrian Flux Arena this Saturday with the return of the Helter Skelter which contains lots for the kids to go on before the meeting and during races. The good news for mum and dad is that it is free for kids to go on and they can go on it as often as they like!!!
