Introduction

This weekend brings Summer Carnival Night to the Adrian Flux Arena on Saturday 30 July (5:30pm), with the annual event for Pre-1985 Unlimited Bangers. Another large entry of Two-Litre Saloon Stock Cars will also be in action, with the added bonus of a Ladies Race for the formula, while the crazy Reliant Robins complete the programme.

Any Unlimited Banger or Reliant Robin Driver who is either looking to race but not yet booked in or listed below and no longer able to race should ensure they contact the office asap on 01553 771111 / 07939 580652. Any Saloon driver should contact the SSCA secretary on 01472 813969.

There are currently 42 Unlimited Bangers, 49 2L Stock Cars (26 for ladies race) and 9 Reliant Robins booked in for action.

Drivers please note that the pits open at 2pm and your early arrival will be appreciated. Drivers turning up in the last hour could well find themselves missing their first race.

Pre-1985 Unlimited Bangers

The older cars racing in Saturday night’s meeting will evoke a style of racing from before the last few years when more modern machinery has dominated. The meeting is a World of Shale qualifying round, the points for which are led by hometown teenager 757 Callum Gill. His father 77 Russell Gill will also be in action, as will defending WoS Champion 160 Shayn Winsor and his son 960 Ross Winsor.

National Points leader 338 Terry Garrod is set to star, while his younger brother 337 Ashley Garrod makes a rare outing in rear-wheel drive machinery. That pair currently sandwich 322 Tom Fox in the points, with the Brandon-based youngster having a good first season as a King’s Lynn regular.

Further big names come in the shape of multi-title winner 22 Dave Vincent, and former WoS Champion 148 Ian Redden, two of the best exponents of rear-wheel drive racing in the sport. Another in that category is 439 Danny Sutton, who was one of the star performers at last month’s A Speedy Exit.

Boston veteran 888 Shaun Stark will be racing in another immaculate motor, alongside his sons 88 Lyndon and 888 Lloyd Stark, while also making a similar trip will be the entertaining 282 Bobby ‘Mr Mad’ Daniels. Another veteran of the old Boston track, 397 Stu Sandell, will be racing once more following his outing at A Speedy Exit.

From further afield come the legendary 811 Pete Winter and 266 Al Roskell who will be joined on the trek from Cumbria by 466 Dalton Steele.

The Team Sowter/Filmer duo of 388 Taylor Sowter and 884 Tom Filmer once again journey up from Surrey to liven up proceedings.

Saloon Stock Car Races are full of spectaculatar incidents

Two of the most local drivers in the Saloon Stock Cars have been celebrating major titles in recent weeks. 641 Willie Skoyles Jr and 428 Lee Sampson return home as the European and National Champions respectively. English Champion 217 Sid Madgwick will also be in action alongside ORC Champion 499 David Aldous.

428

Newly crowned National Champion 428 Lee Sampson will be back in action.

The winner of last month’s Steve Newman Memorial, 570 Simon Venni will be looking to keep his strong run going ahead of a return to the Red grade next month, while National Points dominator 730 Deane Mayes and 998 Wayne Cottrill Jr are also men in form.

Can 570 Simon Venni continue his recent good run of form?

One of Scotland’s finest shale drivers, 600 Barry Russell, who came third in last weekend’s National Championship, makes another welcome visit.

Three newcomers racing on day licences will provide further interest. 390 Dan Stacey has already had a hire car outing this season, but Banger driver 502 Tyler Bloomfield and BriSCA F2 regular 231 Matthew Clayton will be making their first appearances in Saloons.

After the success of the Ladies’ Race at Christmas, another charity fund raising event is being held for the ladies. A big field of ladies with experience in Lady Bangers, up-and-coming racers or wives and girlfriends of regular drivers should make for an entertaining race. Organiser 730 Marie Mayes, 327 Danielle Ellis, 350 Helen Roberts and 525 Amy Brown are among the most experienced. Also fancying her chances will be 1300cc Stock Car star 998 Lauren Overy who looked set to win the Christmas edition until spinning herself out.

Reliant Robins

Expect thrill and spills aplenty in the Reliant Robins

London-based World of Shale Champion 553 Daniel Douglas heads the Reliant Robin entry but 576 Colin Aldred and 385 Roy Gedge are also experienced racers with plenty of wins (and crashes) under their belts.

These cars will spend almost as much time on their roofs as on all three wheels, shedding fibreglass bodywork as they go. Expect the likes of 490 Lee Barnard and 886 Adrian French to be heavily involved in the action.

Fairground Ride

All of the fun of the fair will be at the Adrian Flux Arena this Saturday. The good news for mum and dad is that it ithe rides are free for kids to go on and they can go on them often as they like!!! The Fun House and big Jet ride will be in attendance this coming Saturday.
