Introduction

A packed programme of Stock Car and Banger racing is in store at the Adrian Flux Arena on Sunday afternoon (17 July, 1pm). National Banger action is provided by the 1500cc Bangers, with support coming from Lady Bangers and Junior Bangers. Completing the bill are 1300cc Stock Cars.

 

DRIVERS PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU ARE LOOKING AT RACING BUT NOT LISTED BELOW YOU NEED TO BOOK IN ASAP ON 01553 771111 OR 07939 580652. ALSO IF YOU APPEAR BELOW BUT CAN NO LONGER RACE YOU MUST CANCEL ASAP ON THE SAME NUMBERS.

 

There are currently 49 1300cc Stock Cars, 53 1500cc Bangers, 26 Lady Bangers and 26 Junior Bangers booked in to race. 

 

Drivers please note that the pits open at 10am and your early arrival will be appreciated. Drivers turning up in the last hour could well find themselves missing their first race.

 

1500cc Bangers

It is the third qualifying round for the 1500cc Bangers National Championship, with triple champion 338 Terry Garrod currently leading the way. His brothers 337 Ashley, 339 Jack and 99 Ricky will be joining him in action, having gone well at the 1500s’ last meeting in May. Ashley won the final then while Jack’s all-action display clinched him the G&M Banger Bits Entertainer of the Month award.

The likes of 322 Tom Fox, 399 Jonny Atkin and 830 Lee White will be looking to chase down 338 Wingnut’s lead at the top of the National Championship qualifying points and also the overall National Points, with all in strong contention as we reach mid-season.

Entertainer of the month for June was 601 Chris Medler, who will now be seeking to further close the gap at the top of the Entertainers League to current leader Jack Garrod.

Also likely to be involved in the heavy action are the Predators’ 79 Ricky Twell and 125 Nathan Lake. Locally-based Gremlins trio 223 Daniel Bear, 412 Jake Burgess and 418 Simon Eglen will be more ones to watch on the crashing front. 

Brother and sister pairing 10 Ben and 818 Tiff Collins will be in action, with Tiff aiming to qualify for the National Championship and became the first lady for some years to make the grid of a major National Banger championship race at King’s Lynn.

1300cc Stock Cars

It is the penultimate outing at Saddlebow Road for the 1300s before their World Final next month so another big entry should be in action. 

Top of the national points by some margin after a stellar start to the season is 333 Dan Weavers. He hasn’t had things all his own way since rising to superstar status though, with 149 Todd Payne the current form driver on shale, lifting the Steve Newman Memorial at our last meeting.

After starting the season like a train, the returning 216 Dan Booth looked set to clean up this year, but he then hit a rough patch. Recent form suggests he has now overcome that and will now be looking to regain his status as the man to beat.

The lady to beat is most definitely 317 Lauren Overy who has made a fantastic start to her senior career, having already won two races and risen to fourth in the Trackstar national points. How will she fare from the red grade? 

Local brothers 340 Wes, 341 Austen and 342 Ryley Freestone will be desperately hoping for a change of fortune after a wretched start to the season, particularly for the younger pair.

The legendary 116 Diggy Smith is sure to provide some sparks on track, while 51 Tommy Aylward again offers further visiting interest, with more Spedeworth runners likely to request bookings as we approach the weekend.

 

Lady Bangers

The Lady Bangers’ second most important title, the British Championship, is on the line. 3 Danielle Ellis will be defending the black-and-white chequered roof after taking a clean sweep of all the titles last season.

Former winner 477 Amy Brown will also be among the favourites while we anticipate that 74 Caroline Garner will confirm her booking as she hopes to go one better than two previous runners-up finishes.

If there is to be a new name on the trophy, it could be 72 Breeze Atkin who couldn’t have hoped for a better start to her senior career since stepping up from Junior Bangers. She is the only lady to have won more than one race so far this year.

Local runners 85 Kate Calver, 529 Kay Atter and 762 Kerry Thurgill are capable of upsetting the odds and springing a surprise success if fortune favours them, particularly if they manage some good results in the heats.

 

Junior Bangers

Holders of the gold and silver roofs, 364 Bradley Lee and 997 Wayne Cottrill top the entry which is set to get larger as the weekend approaches. They again head this year’s points standings, with Lee also adding the English crown to his honours after success at Northampton last month.

Their closest challenger in the points is long-distance traveller 340 Will Brazier, while top visitors from the Midlands, 14 Jo Persico, 90 Joey Holmes and 104 Ellis Hopkins will also be clocking up the miles.

From closer to home, 93 Marshall Waldron and 229 Harry Cobb will be looking to continue the strong form they showed at our last meeting which has seen them elevated up the grades.
