Introduction

Banger Racing returns to the Adrian Flux Arena, King’s Lynn, this weekend with a Sunday session (17 September, 1pm) that features one of the biggest championship titles in the sport, the World of Shale for Unlimited Bangers. The mighty two-litre Saloon Stock Cars also make a quick return as they contest their Bumper Trophy. The programme is completed by Junior Bangers.

There are currently 92 Unlimited Bangers, 36 2L Stock Cars and 32 Junior Bangers booked in to race

Please note that any driver who turns up unbooked will not receive any complimentary admissions that they may be entitled to and may also not be allowed to race if the event is still fully booked.

Any Saloon driver looking to book in or cancel should do so through the SSCA Secretary Marion Farrow. Banger  bookings and cancelations can be made on 01553 771111 / 07939 580652.

Drivers please note that the pits open at  2pm and your early arrival will be appreciated. Drivers turning up in the last hour could well find themselves missing their first race.

Unlimited Bangers

There is a very large entry for shale racing’s biggest championship, the prestigious World of Shale. Defending the title will be Boston driver 88 Lyndon Stark who won last year’s edition in very tricky conditions on a wet night. He held off 830 Lee White on that occasion, and the British champion and national points champion-elect is likely to be a major contender once again.

88 Lyndon Stark is the defending Unlimited Banger World of Shale Champion

The line-up is packed with former winners of the title. Among them is the most successful driver in the event’s history, 160 Shayn Winsor, champion in 1990, 1991 and 2015. He is joined by 119 Davey Cox (1992), 617 Jack Overy (2001), 321 Andy Newton (2003), 269 Dean French (2009), 837 Martin Wesby (2012) and 247 Lee Clarke (2013). Clarke has already tasted major success at the track this season, having won the two-litre world crown last month.

Past world title winners 22 Dave Vincent and 673 Darren Fendley are further big names in the star-studded entry list, while second in the points 757 Callum Gill might still be a teenager, but he has proved he has what it takes to win in Unlimited Bangers.

22 Dave Vincent who is a previous World Champion will be a real threat

There is plenty of strong representation for visiting promotions. Shale track regulars 25 Joe Parsons, 326 Shane Lynn and 328 Daniel Lathan could be among the most likely to topple the home favourites, but Spedeworth’s 209 Tom Waller could also be a major threat, while Incarace pairing 129 Jono Brook and 717 Jack Tuffen can’t be ruled out.

GMP’s 455 Ricki Finney has played a big part in this event in the past, including last year, while 760 Joey Reynolds represents Dutch track Emmen. We are also delighted to welcome West Country brothers 262 Buddy and 362 Jonny James who represent Mendips and are certain to provide good value.

Speedy brothers 257 Timmy and 921 Jack Aldridge will need to secure their places on the big race grid via the last-chance qualifier, where the likes of 617 Jack Overy and 338 Terry Garrod could also be frontrunners.

Looking to spice up proceedings with some hard-hitting action will be the likes of 851 Adam ‘The Intimidator’ Storr, the Shunters’ 513 Sean Harvey, 514 Charlie Taylor and 768 Danny McSweeney, and a three-strong entry from the ever-popular Sowter/Filmer team. Drivers from the Wild Boyz, the Gladiators, the Blooz Boys, the Bears, the Shunters and the Gypsy Crew will also ensure that action levels remain rated.

Two-Litre Saloon Stock Cars

The Bumper Trophy, provided by SSCA official photographer Kevin Wickham, is an always hotly-contested event, popular with drivers and fans alike. Last year’s edition featured the first repeat-winner in the event’s 10-year history, such is the competitiveness of the formula. Old master 499 David Aldous was the winner, to add to his 2012 triumph. Other past winners set to be in action include 26 Tommy Barnes (2013) and 149 Jamie Sampson (2009).

New world champion 306 Daniel Parker will be proudly racing under his gold roof once again, while 349 Michael Allard – who claimed the ORC Championship at the track on Saturday – will also have new colours to display on his car. European and national points champion 730 Deane Mayes completes the list of the formula’s champions racing this weekend.

Last weekend’s form man was 161 Billy Smith, scorching to four wins out of four on Sunday afternoon. Can he repeat that kind of success this weekend?

Elsewhere on the entry, veteran 603 Wayne Peckham makes a second appearance in as many weeks on his comeback trail, while Sussex based 831 Pete Hanmer continues his 50th birthday tour with an outing in the hire car.

Junior Bangers

The under-16s return for their first meeting following their World Final. 90 Joey Holmes Jr heads the entry , with further ones to watch likely to include 328 Ben Nichols and 13 Morgan McCarthy who has won the last two finals at the track. 131 Harley McCarthy will be in action in his first meeting since winning the World Final.

Funfair Ride

All the fun of the fair will be at King's Lynn on Saturday with a great ride at the track. The good news for mum and dad is that the ride will be free for the kids to go on as often as they like!
