Monday sees our banger drivers in more unusual vehicles with the Big Van Bangers and Siamese Bangers in action. Both these formulas see our stars have fun in something a bit different. The vans always deliver action on a big scale. 2L Banger World Champion Callum Gill (757) makes a rare outing in the Vans and it will be interesting to see how he gets on. Whilst Russell Gill (77) is a more frequent Big Van Pilot & will be involved if the opportunity presents itself. 1500 Banger National Champion Brett Jackson (551) is no stranger to the Vans and is often involved in the action, we think today will be the same. Likewise Kieran Bowman (178) who needs no encouragement to get involved, a fan of the vans too, he will be looking to keep top of the entertainers league. Harry Gelsthorpe (555) will be in amongst it just like Father Sam was last August. Josh Stewart (334) made his Big Vans debut last August and certainly took it quickly, taking home a decent Van wreck to end the day.
The formbook tends to go out the window with the Big Vans, give them a cheer and enjoy the crashing, Big Van style!
The crazy Siamese Bangers are always hilarious entertainment with the combination of a 2L banger on the bottom and a micro banger type banger on the top. Two drivers take to the track in each combo with the driver in the top car doing the steering and the driver in the bottom car controlling the accelerator and brake. It requires teamwork of the highest order to get the car around the track as quickly as possible! Nathan Wren (366) and Dalton Steele (466) go well around King’s Lynn individually it be interesting to watch them work together as they make their Siamese Banger debut here, whilst James Licquorice (51) and Jack Maryon (212) plus Damien Matthews (87) and Jason Smy (138) have done this before, and should be on the same page, they will equally get stuck in too! The Matthews/ Smy pairing won two races in their last outing together.
The hilarious Reliant Robins also make their first appearance of the season here where keeping the car on three wheels can be a challenge for most! Leading the charge will be the National points champion Roy Gedge (385) and arguable the formulas top driver, he’s been there and done that, but he will have Daniel Douglas (553) hot on his heels who also has a list of big wins to his credit, current holder of the World of Shale Championship and World Championship. Another top Robin pilot includes the British Champion Colin Aldred (576), who is always worth watching and usually in amongst the thick of it. Other regular Robin racers Lee Barnard (490) and Chalky Douglas (554) join the line up and I’m sure will be one’s to keep an eye on, in particular Douglas who really got stuck in. Ian Robins (96) a driver who goes well too around the King’s Lynn shale.
We also have serious action in the shape of the 2L Stock Cars who are always exceptional around here. It is one of their big races of the season with the Steve Newman Memorial being staged. Steve is a much missed member of our community who sadly lost his life in a racing accident. His memorial trophy is one of the most eagerly anticipated races of the year as it is a race literally everyone wants to win and we can expect a fantastic race in his memory on Monday! Every Steve Newman Memorial has been an absolute cracker over the years and expect today’s race to be no different!
Saloon Stock Cars return to the Adrian Flux Arena for the first time this season and their first visit in nine months since the unfortunate lockdown which has helped to save many lives.
Today is the day we remember saloon driver Steve Newman who sadly lost his life nine years ago in a racing accident. The colour pink was a big part of the Newman racing colours and as a mark of respect the drivers normally all paint the front bumpers pink and the crowd wear pink such was his popularity among the racing scene.
Timmy Barnes (131) defends the trophy today which he won in 2019. Billy Smith (161) has got a new car and will be looking for that elusive title this year, Billy doesn’t take any prisoners and will be using the front bumper Monday we’re sure. Current holder of the Silver Roof is Deane Mayes (730) will also looking to be in the thick of the action. Rowan Venni (370) certainly made an impact last season and will be one to watch this season and has shown great pace this year in practice. Fellow former mini stocker Kegan Sampson (329) has his own car this year and will be looking to upstage his father 428 Lee on track just like Rowan will with brother 570 Simon.
Kieran Tweed (323) the banger man will be looking to show his form from the practice days, Brad Dyer (48) also makes his Lynn debut whilst Richard Skeels (24) is making a rare saloon outing no doubt before the circuit racing resumes.
It’s going to be an awesome afternoon of Banger and Stock Car action
