Meeting Preview
Coming up this weekend at King’s Lynn – it’s Super Stock Car Saturday – we have over 110 cars currently booked across the night – which is fantastic and incredible support. The F1’s race for World Championship Qualifying points and over 50 of them currently booked in at the time of writing – it’s a star studded line up including 7 racers from Holland in the F1’s alone – the Dutch do certainly add an extra dynamic to the proceedings. Thank you to them for coming along.
515 Frankie Wainman JNR will be hoping to mirror his Daughter, Phoebe’s, achievements of last week where she won the F1 UK Open Championship at Skegness, the first time a lady has taken the crown and the first ever time a Mother has won a race in F1’s – great stuff and well done to Phoebe. Frank is right in form too and sits second in the World Qualifying points – can he close the gap to defending title holder 1 Tom Harris? 16 Matt Newson and 526 Finn Sargent currently lay in third and fourth and will be clinging on to keep those positions to the end of the qualifying – they will certainly be trying. Newson is the current leader of the Track Championship and will not relinquish that bragging right easily. 217 Lee Fairhurst and 55 Craig Finnikin make their King’s Lynn Season debuts here and will be hunting out all important Qualifying points aswell as finding the form around the World Championship venue. 5 Charlie ‘’Wildchild’’ Sworder lines up in the reds and will be interesting to see him fly around the shaleway; when the bit is between his teeth he certainly lives up to his name. 166 Bobby Griffin is another driver who when is in form is a very handy shale performer, he’s certainly got some good form around King’s Lynn this season, currently laying second in the Track Championship, the upgrade to Red grade will likely not phase him either. 212 Danny Wainman currently third in the track championship, going under slightly there, but seemingly in form at King’s Lynn and one to keep an eye on.
Last time here 346 Ashley England and 554 Sierd de Vries were race winners, as were 67 Henry Robson and 453 Thomas Andrew, they’re all back for more here this evening and will be giving it their all for more silverware – Robson and Andrew now sporting the sought after Red roofs – a superb achievement for them, well done. Heading up closer to the front a number of handy and quick shale specialists who could upset the star graders by keeping them at bay- it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on the likes of 95 Rob Mitchell, 268 Richard Woods and 335 Mark Woodhull making his season debut. It’s also always worth keeping your eyes out for the local hero 457 Callum Gill who has already a second place to his credit at King’s Lynn and will be hoping to go one better on Saturday.
Aswell as the World Championship Qualifying points, the F1 Stock Cars will race for the equally as important and significant Ben Turner Memorial trophy, a trophy that will have a lot of meaning to a lot of teams. 418 Niels Tesselaar will be hoping to keep the trophy in the Family and take it back to Holland after Brother Jelle took the win last year. With thanks to the Turner Family who will be on hand to present the Meeting Final trophies, who have add an extra £100 to the winner purse and the best white/yellow will also get a £100 bonus.
Also a huge thank you to Stephen Lawson of SL Rally Tyres for his generous contribution of a number of tyres also up for grabs in the F1 Stock Car White and Yellow race.
The F2 Stock Cars return for their third meeting here this season, over 60 cars scheduled and racing for the English Open Championship . . the first time the track has held the title since 1995 and it was a very much a case of Superstar Vs Superstar with 559 Bert Finnikin and 218 Rob Speak locked in to battle that night for supremacy. The grid worked out on a basis of a normal format with drivers having to qualify through the heats and consolation on the night, with the grid for the Final divided in to 6 groups based on their points averages up to the last grading. We have already seen some superb racing and action from this class here in 2025 and the signs are there that Saturday will be another cracker.
Local top driver 43 Marcus Gilbert will be looking for some good results, whilst British Champion 47 Greg McKenzie will be hoping to keep up the good form from last meeting where in the Grand National he survived to win after a superb last bend assault from the inform 271 Alex Butcher in what as a superb night to end the F2 Stock Cars. You also don’t want to write off 129 Charley Tomlin, he is no slouch around the King’s Lynn shale and will definitely be featuring in the results, and very likely could challenge for the win.Superstars 7 Gordon Moodie and 183 Charlie Guinchard also will be favourites to feature in the result and often go well around the King’s Lynn shale. They will be joined by fellow Star graders and quick shale specialists Brothers, 103 Jack Issitt and 113 Pat Issitt. Let’s not forget 414 Josh Rayner and 995 Michael Lund who on their day can be super quick on the loose stuff; Lund a race winner last time here and looking for more tonight as will 118 Danny Wragg who demonstrated the highs and lows of the sport with a race win in the heat, and then a rollover in the final. It was good to see 62 Trevor Buckley take the win in the Feature Final that night, his first since 2009 we're led to believe – back for more tonight and the red wing will look very suited atop of the 62 machine.
116 Courtney Smith showing she’s can get results with an upgrade up to yellow, as does 147 Aidan Derry who moves up to blue, keen an eye on them on Saturday, along with long distance racer 464 Matt Linfield making the journey up from the West Country to join us who enjoys his outings around King’s Lynn. Also impressing currently are 925 Jake Wilson and 926 Joshua Wilson with some smart machinery to their credit and gaining good results with it too.
More local heros we will also be watching out for are 795 Jason Clow making his season debut – good luck to him in his completely revamped car for this season. 179 Beth Usher debuted a fantastic looking new car last meeting a few weeks ago, hopefully any new car gremlins can be sorted this time and she has good night out.
Thanks to Thetford Auto Parts for sponsoring the F2 Stock Car English Open – a massive thank you to them for the support.
We hope to see you trackside- it’s going to be a great night of BriSCA Stock Car action.
