Sunday 7th December @1pm meeting preview

Our penultimate fixture of the year and the last outing for the Unlimited Bangers & 1600cc Bangers at King’s Lynn this season, what a year it’s been too! The Nutcracker event is an annual fixture for the Unlimited Bangers which always has some fantastic action, plus the 25 and under Championship of GB will also be contested. The 1600cc Bangers race in the annual National Championship, they have been brutal at King's Lynn throughout qualifying for this. A solid day of Bangers at the Adrian Flux Arena, we’re anticipating another fantastic meeting once again on the 7th, we hope to see you there.  There are 55 Unlimited Bangers and 97 1600 Bangers booked to race; first race 1pm.

The Unlimited Banger Nutcracker returns this weekend with over 50 cars currently scheduled, big cars, big action. The Nutcracker is a race which can be dated back to 1993 and won by some of the biggest and best names in the Sport. 199 Shaydy Gough won the 2024 staging, but not currently scheduled we might see a new name added the roll of honour. Once again some superb talent across the class is set to head to the Norfolk Shale to contest the race. Keep an eye out for the likes of 247 Lee Clarke, Veteran racer 348 Sonny Sherwood, Trackstar World Champion 570 Jordan Cumming and 760 Joey Reynolds in the running for that.

The 25 and Under Championship of GB is also on the lines- the young guns of the Banger Racing are certainly stars of now, let alone the future and a strong field of contenders is booked to take on this race too - 6 Tommy Rawsthorne, 41 Robbie Steele – a name we don’t normally see at King’s Lynn, 132 Jack Wyatt  - who is very much in the infancy of his career but making great strides as one to watch, likewise Speedworth World Champion 459 Blake Platts. There will also be a number of drivers looking to stake a claim in the World Of Shale Entertainer qualification – 51 Jack Licquorice, 84 Will Cole, 100 Callum White and 750 Rhys Parrin.

The National Championship roles into town on Sunday 7th December with the 1600cc national Banger drivers taking centre stage for their major event of the year.  Plenty of action has taken place throughout their qualifying rounds with the points being a great battle all the way to the finish!! The last round was a very good watch at 196 Eddie Farrow, 275 Joel Bond and 311 Garry Lown battling all the way to the last race to see who would come out on top, and it was 275 Bond who claimed the points title with some great performances throughout the qualifying campaign, and he also doubled it up with a good entertainer league position alongside his points victory.  Joel will come into this as a driver with bags of confidence and will definitely be in the mix to get his hands on the national championship title.  In truth there are plenty of drivers well in the mix to win this, and with 39 qualifiers already on the grid, it would be fair to say that fifty percent of them will fancy their chances of landing the title, and to be honest it wouldn’t be a shock either if any number of them claim the title.  196 Farrow and 311 Lown are both currently having the season of their banger careers with 311 Lown coming close again to landing the 1600 points, and now firmly targeting this championship as a sign of revenge on 275 Bond who saw him off in the points.  196 Farrow will see his shot at this as a sign as to how far he has come as a driver in such a short space of time here at King’s Lynn.  Eddie has put together a string of good results with a victory or two along the way and has quickly become a fans favourite and has gained a lot of respect amongst his piers also.  It will be a massive achievement for the local man, and you can’t write him off from getting the job done.

The defending champion isn’t a driver who can be written off either, and despite not seeing him as much as we would like, 608 Lenny Murkin will come here with plenty of confidence and surely with a car that will be geared up for another chance at claiming victory in the big race.  The national championship was Lenny’s first major honours in his career, and I certainly wouldn’t write him off and going back to back.  There are several other drivers who will be going all out to stake a claim for the national championship, with a few to mention 12 Troy Cobbett, 248 Jamie Blything, 512 Kieron Rowe and 730 Deane Mayes.  12 Troy has been at the fore front of this event over the past few years, and in truth should have already won it a couple of times by now, however that isn’t the case, and he has flown under the radar this year in the 1600’s despite having a very good 2 litre campaign.  That is a reason alone to give him every chance, I’ve always found that there is a surprise package in major title races, and with having a slightly quieter campaign in the 1600’s that could be all the ammunition that Troy needs, and if all the rest have forgotten how good he can be in this class, then they will be daft to write him off, and he certainly is a driver who has a touch of class and could get the job done in this.  248 Jamie Blything like Troy is another driver who had a cracking 2 litre Bangers campaign and has slightly flown under the radar in the 1600’s, however he is another who you should write off at your peril.  Jamie now has plenty of big race experience and has had a taste of podium positions along the way and he is now becoming one of the top front wheel drive drivers out there.  Jamie has got better year on year, and I expect him to be at the front of the order when it gets to the business end of the race.  There are a lot of drivers out there in this race, and with such a big grid of cars it comes geared up for drivers who have plenty of big race experience, and drivers who enjoy the challenge of big grids of cars to battle through.  Two drivers who fit that bill are 512 Kieron Rowe and 730 Deano Mayes, 512 Rowe has been incredible round here this year with some very good race wins, including some important ones at team meetings.  He will certainly be one too watch and if getting a good grid draw he will be one to keep an eye on.  730 Deano has been there and done it before, titles galore with his biggest success coming down at Taunton in the Saloon Stock Cars claiming the World Championship in that formula.  Despite being very quick in the 1600’s this year, he has also been highly entertaining with plenty of rivalries along the way this year, and he and the rest of the THP7 lads pretty much ruined the Blue and Black boys earlier on at Icebreaker and then the season opener, and that team have never been the same since.  So Deano is a driver who is one to keep an eye on in this, and if not winning it, he may have an effect in the race to decide who does or doesn’t.  Former champions 551 Brett Jackson and 566 Tony Pallett will be drivers coming into this with plenty of confidence, with a race win each in recent times and they both have big chances once again. 9 Ben Cox will look to emulate his dad Davey and claim his first major honours, and he is a driver who has improved vastly over the last couple of seasons.  Father and son duo 8 Kev and 817 Rhys Mills will look to work hard and have a good run through the field also, and they are two drivers who have had a good season with us here this year.

On the entertainment front 39 Ryan Knibbs took the 1600cc entertainer league title with some very good displays and a never say die attitude to getting the car turned back around.  479 Joel Allen has become one of the hardest hitting drivers you’ll see in the formula in recent years, with some incredibly hard hits.  195 Billy and 951 Jack have also took the formula by storm this season with some dominant entertaining displays, but they can also be quick and have both won races around here in this current campaign.  644 Alfie Sime is another who is hard hitting, and he will be one who will get the action going early, so he will definitely be one to keep an eye on.  305 Alfie Cornish has been brilliant whenever he has been here this season, he can mix it up with some quick racing, but more often than not it’s his entertaining performances that have put him in the mix.  The current national points champion 69 Brad Bartram sneaked into this on the last meeting, and he will be looking to make it count for sure, and is another big hitter in a field full of talent.  113 Alex Exton and 428 Nick Ashbridge will be ones too watch, 113 Exton has been highly entertaining in this campaign when we have seen him, and 428 Ashbridge is always a top quality all rounder.  Nick is currently doing very well in the national entertainer league, and has juggled all formulas very well this season to put himself in every major title race in the front wheel drive cars, and he can get these Vauxhalls going well, so don’t count him out.

There is bags of potential in the last chance races to join these drivers in the main race, and we’ll go more into detail on that a little later in the week.

This really is going to be a race not to be missed, don’t forget to join us Sunday 7th December for a great day of action.

See you soon
Matt
