The King’s Lynn 2026 Banger racing season starts with a bang - Icebreaker XXXII, the 32nd running of the legendary team event on Sunday 18 January (12 noon). The prestigious Unlimited Bangers WFS Anglia (www.wfsanglia.co.uk) British Open teams of four championship returns, a star-studded entry once again anticipated, with the Sports biggest names expressing interest in taking part. The Icebreaker looks to bring the biggest, best and hardest hitting teams – you do not want to miss this. There are 78 Unlimited Bangers (22 Teams), 23 Micro Bangers and 25 Junior Bangers Booked in to race.
A very good list of drivers for the 2026 Unlimited Icebreaker team event. Leading the charge is last years entertainer league champions and the previous years points winner the BRCM lads. 252 Steven Bugler has had a very good season once again, and looks set to lead the team into battle for another strong showing. Joining Boogie is the 2025 Unlimited Banger World Of Shale Champion 262 Rob Bugler, if that wasn’t good enough he went onto win the PRI world title at his home track of Bristol Mendips. Roona has been in top form all throughout the campaign and surely has to enter calculations as one of the performers of the 2025 season. It will definitely be a tough ask to top that, but if there is a driver with the capabilities of doing it, then Rob is certainly a driver who would enter that conversation. They will be joined by running mates 440 Big Mac who had a good showing here at the world of shale with a podium position, and then had a good run at the Ringwood UK Open, so he will also come here full of confidence. The fourth and final piece of the puzzle is 333 Charlie Randell, who is another who has had a consistent season, and often has a good run round here. The BRCM lads have taken all the beating over recent seasons in this event and it could well play out like that again this season.
However there are some strong challengers in both the points title and the entertainer league, with The Bears making a return to the Icebreaker scene and coming strong handed with two teams lead of course into battle by the gaffer 521 Ace Ash Riley, and it will be great to see how they get on with a great battle with DWO over the years that looks set to be renewed again come Sunday. Both sides have two teams and it could be highly entertaining to see how it all pans out, but one thing is for sure it should be very entertaining. The Silver Boys come in to this event very strong, with 455 Rikki Finney putting together an incredibly strong outfit that will certainly put in a bold bid to take the honours on Sunday. 459 Blake Platts the Spedeworth World Champion is a driver who is currently on the crest of a wave, and he will be a tough driver to catch around here, it’s also great to see 182 Reece and 281 Lewis Tingle back racing here at King’s Lynn. Former Spedeworth World Champion 388 Stevo McGrath is another talented driver who will look to add plenty of points on the board and a further couple of handy recruits are 06 Tommy Rawsthorne and 132 Jack Wyatt who have both had race wins around here and could easily be game changers for their respective teams.
577 Alfie Lee leads two strong TCB sides into battle with regular running mate 506 Danny Mitchell making a welcome return to King’s Lynn, and with the likes of 623 Tricky Ricky Hutton in his side, they could be a very dangerous side to keep an eye on. The Dover Boys are lead into battle by the man who’s testimonial is here in 2026, 188 Victor John Reeves, he has formed another crash happy side, with 2024 and 2025 entertainer league champion 51 James Licquorice coming into battle once again alongside his long term running mate. Joining the boys are up and coming crasher 372 James Cable who has had a very good season with us here at King’s Lynn, and I’m sure he will go home as a driver many people will be talking about. The last member of the team is 611 Joe Geeves, The Flying Postman as he was once called and now known as Beiber does enjoy a team meeting, and he can do a bit of both for his sides, he’s happy to go for a crash, and is also as happy earning some much needed points for his side, and they could be a good team too watch.
Team 3GB are a good side with the likes of 760 Joey Reynolds in the side you’re always onto a winner, then when you put 180 Sparky Foster and 382 Chubby on the charge you can’t help but think that this side has got a good chance of taking some good honours today. It’s great to see the Vigilanties going into battle lead by 920 Terry Church, and he and 122 Wayne Boland will be putting on a good show, The Jokers are another side who will fall into that category with 276 Adam and 277 Sean Rowell looking to put on another quality display. Will Cole has formed a handy side together as he carries on his hunt for more World Of Shale entertainer points, the likes of 23 Sonny Parsons and 257 Harvey Barrow will have a good crack at it, and it will be great to see the Mill Green Mafia colours back on track at a team meeting. Speaking of come backs to a team meeting, and it’s great to see the return of Damage Inc in their own guise at the Unlimited Icebreaker Team Championship, and with the likes of 247 Bro Lee Clarke and 548 Alex Utting very capable of leading the charge along with 644 Alfie Sime, these lads could certainly get back amongst the title challengers.
Well a highly competitive Unlimited Icebreaker team championship for 2026, who will come out on top?
The Micro Bangers compliment the line up – they were fantastic entertainment at Christmas; 830 Lee White can never be discounted and will be surely up there at the end of the race. 69 Brad Bartram is rapid around King's Lynn and will likely be up there at the end. 30 Brandon and 730 Deane Mayes will be in amongst the action, either taking the win or getting stuck; similarly 93 Lewis Godfrey likes a crash too, as can 372 James Cable and 699 Aaron Nelson.
A late addition in the Juniors rounds out the line up; always superb entertainment and we have just mid-20’s booked in. 08 Taylor Morton won the silver in 2025 and will be looking for a good run out ahead of the new season; it’s always good to see a driver go from strength to strength, and Taylor is a driver who has done just that, however he will have his work cut out for this meeting. It’s great to see so many youngsters work their way through the ranks; keep an eye on 210 Charlie Goose, 339 Jack Garrod Jnr – who had a great day at the Christmas meeting and 730 Leo Mayes who will be certainly be up there or thereabouts at the chequered flag.
All the best and we look forward to seeing you trackside. Matt
