Preview, by Matt Black
This Sunday see’s a retro feel to the action, and it’s like we’ve gone back in time with a Pre 96 1600cc Bangers Icebreaker event, and goodness me hasn’t it brought back some incredible teams and rivalries. The Predators, Team Black and The Mad Hatters all return alongside Team Starkey, all sides that have been a huge part of a successful last twenty years here at Trackstar and King’s Lynn. This event really has caught the imagination and has even seen us get two teams over from Ireland with the great Last Rites team making a comeback for the occasion. This really could be one of the meetings of the year, and is definitely underrated for sure, some of the drivers it has brought back for a meeting is quite incredible, former world champions, former entertainer league winners, the list goes on. We’ll start with The Predators where modern day driver 479 Joel Allen has put together a strong side, and that comes off the back of his best season to date with a second place finish in the 2025 Entertainer League, a result that went right down to the wire and Joel battled very hard with Alfie Sime, Ryan Knibbs and Nick Ashbridge, and it really could have gone anyway, however it was Joel who came out on top to grab the second spot, and he really has developed into one of the biggest hitters that we have here at Trackstar, and no doubt on Sunday he will be exactly the same. If you haven’t seen Joel in action before then you are in for a treat if he is on one of his crashing displays. Joel is joined in the Predators by long time members 79 Ricky Twell who makes a return after an absence of nearly five years, and he will be someone who will look to renew some rivalries on Sunday, which almost definitely will probably be with Team Black, and that alone will be a mouth watering prospect. 96 Liam Brinton and 519 Knuckles round out the team, and it is a very strong line up indeed, and of course there will be plenty of people watching the famous red and blue take to the track for what will probably be one final blast. Another side who definitely fit that bill are the Mad Hatters, these lads dominated in the what was 1500cc Bangers back in the day with former World Champions 390 David Gibson and 399 Jonny Atkin leading the line with former entertainer league champ 392 Sam Baines, who together will take people back ten years to when these lads were at the peak of their powers, they’re joined by 611 Joe Geeves in the A team. It really is great to see the lads back in the thick of it, and with two sides they could really do some damage out there. Back in the day we had some really good battles when it came to team events, and I think this will be no different. It’s good to see the likes of Roy Gedge and Max Stott returning for an also returning Team Black, I expect them to be fully involved with Mad Hatters and The Predators, and renew old rivalries. This was a war back in the day that really was a great watch, and all the lads seem bang up for it and to give that war one last blast and send everyone home very happy. It’s great to see the returning Last Rites make their way back over, and the Flaherty lads are back once again to put it about around here, and the famous Purple and Black colours will be great to see back around here, and no doubt they will be here for a crash and to put on a show, and they again are a side who don’t do too much together now, and we have to enjoy seeing these famous colours on track for what could be the last time around here at King’s Lynn. The Starks are another side who join us again after quite some time, to roll back the years in cars that they loved to pilot around here. 88 Lyndon a former World Of Shale champion will I’m sure be one who will be doing his job for the side as I’d imagine himself, 886 The Rocket, 887 Liam and 888 Lloyd will start as one of the teams who will fancy their chances of having a good run in this, and perhaps challenging for the points title. All four brothers are highly talented, and have all had plenty of success over the years, both here and at Skegness which is where they’re based these days, and you’d have to see them as one of the teams that could quite easily take the honours come Sunday afternoon. The Export Crew captained by 441 Lee Horwood have some very capable drivers in their ranks, 478 Craig Royal is a driver who is very handy indeed, and has done plenty of winning over the years. They have two sides who are very capable of going well in this, and again are in cars that they will feel very comfortable in.
TMT lead by Ricky Hutton will be a team to keep an eye on, and again have two sides full of talent. Ricky himself is a driver who will impress, as often is the case here and everywhere else he goes around the country, but he has put together two seriously strong units. 94 Jack Anscombe, 720 Kenny Gabriel Jnr and 817 Toby Hodgkinson are all drivers who we are excited to see around here, and I think it could be a first for Jack and Toby, Kenny of course is someone we see fairly regularly in the 2 litre bangers here, and he always puts on an incredible display. 94 Jack and 817 Toby are of course part of The Dreamers, but they have joined forces with TMT to create this what could be mega team for Sunday, and I expect them to put on a really good display. The likes of 64 Danny Lee and 160 Jamie Warr are drivers who will give everything to the cause as well, and between the two teams they look set to have a strong hand come Sunday afternoon. THP7 are once again lead into battle by 730 Deano, and like other team meetings, Deane has grabbed the best local talent he could find, and once again fields two very strong outfits to get his hands on some more honours here at Trackstar, in what is quickly become one of the must watch teams. 12 Troy Cobbett, 30 Brandon Mayes, 248 Jamie Blything and 566 Tony Pallett should all be very good points scorers over the two teams, and I’d expect them to hold every chance as they go into the final, and that’s normally when it can all change of course, but they will almost certainly be there when it comes to the business end of proceedings. The Levellers are again in action with some top young talent out on track 475 Archie and 477 Jack Speirs will be leading the line with 308 Joss Proctor a regular running mate looking to all once again put on a good show, and they are joined by guest driver 98 Jake Wilson, who put in a brilliant performance at the Bilge meeting back in August, and no doubt he will be out to impress again on Sunday, and has joined ranks with some very popular young drivers who always give their all when they come to visit us at King’s Lynn. The Dover Boys will be looking to impress after being voted Trackstar team of the year for 2025, they again come mob handed with 188 John Reeves leading regular running mate 51 James Licquorice into battle, a man who won the entertainer league for 2025. 372 James Cable will be a driver who will look to mount a challenge on the entertainer league for 2026, if able to do so. Cable recorded a top ten finish in the entertainer league for 2025 which was his maiden full season with us here, and that lead him to be voted best newcomer of 2025, an award that was very well deserved. They are joined by 116 Nat Cohn. Who is a driver who always try’s to give it his all in the Dover Boys colours and has been part of their success in the past.
The Beacon Bandits will also be a side who fancies their chances when it comes to either the points or the entertainer league, 608 Lenny and 609 Levi are two drivers who can certainly mix it with the best of them on both fronts, 644 Alfie Sime was a driver who finished the season in the top five of the entertainer league here, and 951 Jack Giddings is a driver who can do both. All four drivers will fancy their chances of having a really good day, and they have to go on the shortlist as a team who can claim the entertainer league, so they must be a team to keep an eye on. K&R Autos are a side who will slip under the radar, but 171 Nay Brooks and 269 Tom Morris are very capable drivers. Matts Mafia field another side and the likes of 428 Nick Ashbridge will look to have a good day once again representing the Mafia. The Skunks field two teams with 202 Callum Walker and 205 Phillip Mylett leading the charge for them lads, and in those two drivers they have two very capable drivers who like to entertain as well. The Bland boys also take to the field for the side, and they always turn out good cars, who put on a really good show, so keep an eye on those drivers. Blue and Black are lead into battle by 43 Nicky Bishop, and with 311 Garry Lown in this side, it looks set that they may go to war with the Mad Hatters, 311 Golden Boy was someone who was in a constant battle with the lads in red and yellow for a number of years, and that looks like it could be renewed come Sunday. 26 Paul Lovick leads STB into battle, a side who have been more than competitive over the years here in team meetings. Two teams who will need Keeping an eye on are Rust and Dust and Team Beaver, these are two sides full of drivers who will thrive off of this meeting. Rust and Dust with the four very handy drivers in 418 Steven and 420 Matt Jode, joined by 419 Laura Quadling and 469 Martin Baxter, they will be very much worth a watch, and are always drivers who turn it on especially when it comes to these old skool meetings. Team Beaver who are lead into the heat of the battle by 41 Tom Dye who loves an Old Skool meeting, and 21 Jordan Coleman, both were in good form at the small van meeting back at the start of last season.
All in all this looks set to be an absolute cracker, and you really don’t want to miss it this Sunday 12pm start. Get your advanced tickets booked up now and come and join us this Sunday for what should be an incredible day of action.
All the best
Matt
