Coming up next…Bragging Rights is a unique team event where drivers are split into Team East Anglia and Team The Rest, mixing up the usual rivalries and alliances. Across the Micro Bangers, 2 Litre Bangers, teams score points through race results and on-track action to decide the overall winners. Each class also features a Destruction Derby, with two in total during the day—where the last car running takes victory. The TSR Bangers make a last minute addition for their second outing of the year after a hugely successful meeting on Easter Monday. Rounding out the event are the hard-hitting Saloon Stock Cars, battling for the English Championship with their trademark high-impact, no-holds-barred racing. There are 42 Saloon Stock Cars, 29 Micro Bangers and 28 2L Bangers for Bragging Rights PLUS 36 TSR Bangers Booked in to Race. First race 1pm.
Preview - Matt Black
Monday see’s the return of the Bank Holiday team meeting, that this year has a slight twist!! Most of the drivers participating will be Trackstar registered and we’ve separated the teams into EA vs Rest Of The UK with the EA in red and rest of the UK in black, both sides full of talent in the micros and the 2 Litre Bangers with big hitters aplenty to entertain a strong Bank Holiday crowd. Both formula of national bangers will take part in two heats which will be followed lastly by a final into Destruction Derby where literally it will be last car running and one driver will take the Bragging Rights on their way to DD victory. Bragging rights is quite simple, it’s Team Red vs Team Black and both will be out to stop the opposition from winning!! It will definitely be a fun event for all involved, but also should be a challenging one as the drivers look to negotiate their way past the other side, which trust me takes a lot of skill and hard work.
These drivers aren’t just about the crash and bash, they’re seriously talented drivers who will look to grab a win for their team. In the micros we have a good set of East Anglian based drivers ready to go head to head with a very strong Rest Of The UK team which will look to come to town and put on a bold bid for the win. The Black Team will field a strong hand of drivers which certainly centres around the Yorkshire area and with 03 Will Blackett and 359 Danny Smith on a mission, we could be in for an exciting afternoon of action. The Reds lead into battle by the likes of 155 Sam Coote and 93 Lewis Godfrey will look to have a good go at this, and it really is an even playing field with battles all over the place and plenty to play for across the board. There is a bigger picture for our Micro Banger drivers as they work towards their Micro Banger UK Championship and look to get more points on the board or more realistically for this meeting, get their entertainer points. Despite them being small in size, these cars definitely provide plenty of entertainment on a regular basis, and often steal the show with big hits and loads going on.
The 2 Litre Bangers will look set to add plenty of steel to proceedings, and some of the drivers taking part are absolutely savage and whether you’re on EA side or rest of the uk side, we’re in for an absolute treat. For EA the likes of 51 James Licquorice, 370 John Cobbold and 372 James Cable lead the charge, with the likes of 512 Matt Armstrong and 699 Aaron Nelson looking to get the right result for the side in red. However they’re up against a very strong team, and with the likes of 26 Hacker Dan Holmes, 312 Brad White, 519 Knuckles Lee Middleton, 50 Reece Laybourn and 552 Karl Douglas, then add into the mix 210 Callum McKee, 181 Craig Allen and big hitter 469 Martin Baxter we really are in for a treat of an afternoon of entertainment in the 2 Litre national bangers. I’m expecting this class of bangers to be absolutely savage, with plenty of big hits going in, and I wouldn’t expect a lot left come the final or DD. Again like the micro bangers, these drivers will be looking to get the all important points towards their 2 Litre Banger World Final campaign, which is only a few months away for them now and that takes place on Saturday 1st August and if you like what you see from these drivers today then please make sure you come back and support their big meeting at the start of the month of August, they really are the hardest drivers out there.
A late addition to the game are the TSR Bangers in their second date of the season, and after the success of the first one, we are very much looking forward to this. The drivers were fantastic in their season opener, and we are very much looking forward to watching them get back and entertaining us once again on a Bank Holiday Monday. This class of Bangers is slightly different to the National Bangers, basically the builds are pretty much identical apart from a couple of key features, so they’re only allowed bulk head steam tanks, and they must run at least one original engine or gearbox mount. There were some stand out performers at the opener with drivers joining us for their first over outings with us, and the likes of 428 Declan Cobb started his campaign off really well with a win along the way and some solid displays after that. Other drivers who started their campaigns well were 212 Chris Bartrum who grabbed a good win in the opening race of the season, and he will be one to watch throughout this campaign, both Chris and the before mentioned Declan will rise through the grades if they continue in this form.
292 Paul Davies had a good showing on his first outing here, and got to grips with things here very quickly, as did the 32 pilot Tyler Cope, both drivers once gained more experience here will be ones who will go onto do great things here. 257 Anna Beard and 696 Shelby Allen will be doing it for the ladies, and it’s great to see a few ladies taking out licences for our Tsr Bangers. 339 Jack Garrod rolled back the years in his heats, before losing oil and sustaining a bit of damage. 127 Kieran Andrews went well and joins us again, and he’ll be another to keep an eye on as the season goes on. 48 Lewis Grummett grabbed a win in the last race at the opener, and he will be one to keep an eye on, and can certainly be quick on his day, I’d expect a strong showing from him. 19 Reggie Turnbull, 556 Matt Tillow and 566 Tony Pallett are drivers who will start at the back of the pack and will look to plot their way through the grid and will strike late if getting the job done. Father and son 348 Steve and 349 Dan Copland will be looking to see who comes out on top, and grab the bragging rights in the family, and the same can be said for brothers 390 David Gibson and 939 Jack Lewis, Jack making his King’s Lynn debut at the first Tsr Banger meeting back at the start of April, and it’s great to see the Mad Hatters colours back out on track. 272 Riley Crowson and 257 John Harvey will look to grab some more points, both are more than capable drivers, and the trio of 52 Charlie Pearson, 424 Tony Moore and 721 Daniel Clarke will look to have a good run round once again, Dan of course in his smart BMW doing it in style. 186 Chris Loveridge had a good return last time out after a decade away, and we welcome back 5 Dan McLennan and 196 Eddie Farrow after some time away.
Once again we have a good field of cars, fun and frantic racing, with plenty of spins, punts, bumps and plenty of lead changes.
Alongside the Bangers, the armoured Saloon Stock Cars complete the lineup for the day. Built from familiar road car shells but reinforced with heavy-duty steel bumpers all around, these machines are made for impact. Expect relentless, metal-on-metal action as crashes and fence-rattling hits come as standard in this class. The drivers show no restraint, delivering one of the most thrilling formulas on the track. A superb 40 cars are booked in for this and with some of the biggest and best names from the English drivers in the class – we’re looking for a superb afternoon of racing. Top drivers from far and wide, champions and former champions; with the English Championship on the line, the intensity ramps up—sparks will fly, the fence will shake, and the noise of clashing steel will be impossible to ignore.
A strong lineup of champions is set to take to the track, including World Champion and King’s Lynn track champion Ryan Santry (389), who consistently delivers impressive results at the venue. British Champion Luke Dorling (120) will also be aiming to mount a serious challenge. Billy Smith (161) made an excellent start to the season on 28th February, claiming victory in the feature final, and will be looking to build on that success this Saturday. Other drivers to watch include Rowan Venni (370) and Austen Freestone (341), both of whom perform exceptionally well around King’s Lynn. Kieran Bowman (178) is another name to keep an eye on—the former Banger driver knows the quickest way around the track.
