1300 Stock Car European Championship
The European Championship has attracted a huge entry of the little 1300cc Stock Cars that always provide action-packed races with plenty of hard-hitting bumper-to-bumper action at Saddlebow Road.
1300 Stock Cars have produced lots of action at King's Lynn this year.
Home hopes lie with the likes of World of Shale Champion 340 Wes Freestone and early-season pacesetter 400 Kevin Shinn. 273 Kevin McClagish, 653 Gemma Rainer and 780 Simon Sparrow are the other star graded locals that are seeded to the main race, though none has managed to win a race since May – what better time than this weekend to change that!
Points champion 340 Wes Freestone heads the Trackstar entry
Newcomer 379 Ben Whitehall proved that he doesn’t have to start at the front of the grid to be successful with some decent results last weekend, while 333 Dan Weavers also impressed and could be a good outside bet to spring a surprise.
333 Dan Weavers has impressed recently and could spring a surprise on Saturday
The home seeds are completed by 341 Austen Freestone, 444 Natasha Street, 704 Stuart Henderson and 781 Scott Sparrow. Each will hope to draw a place near the front of the grid – or to steer clear of trouble in the opening stages of the big race – to boost their chances.
444 Natasha Street will be hoping for a favourable draw
A contingent of Scottish drivers will travel down to compete against the local specialists. Among their number are relatively regular visitor 67 Craig Haxton Jr, 99 Callum Barclay and teenage superstar 122 Zak Gilmour, the current top dog in Scotland. 42 Billy Wilson, 93 Kevin Morrison, 124 Andrew Mathieson, 125 Euan Mathieson and the experienced 63 David Auld all have past experience of the track which could prove vital.
Scotland's 67 Craig Haxton will be hoping to put his experience of the Lynn track to good use
Spedeworth’s leading contenders come in the shape of World Champion 171 Adam O’Dell, 167 Jimmy Morris and (we expect) 713 Ian Beaumont who are all super-quick around the Adrian Flux Arena, with Morris and Beaumont having won the last two meeting finals at the track. Veteran racer 71 Steve O’Dell will also be a major threat.
71 Steve O Dell is part of a very strong Spedeworth challenge
Among those contesting the last-chance qualifier, watch out for 499 Gavin Payne who has racked up several top-three finishes from the yellow grade since returning to the sport.
Micro Bangers
For the little Bangers that can dish out and survive more hits than you would think possible, it is the last UK Championship qualifying round.
Micro Banger races are jam packed full of action
New Two-Litre Banger World Champion 673 Darren Fendley will be showing off his gold roof, while everyone else will be looking to stop him in his tracks. The entry includes former World Champion 390 David Gibson, and the crack Team Jackpot squad of brothers 337 Ashley, 338 Terry and 339 Jack Garrod, who all love their Micro racing.
339 Jack Garrod is always heavily involved in the action
551 Brett Jackson is – like Gibson and Ashley Garrod – a former Micro UK Champion, but is more likely to be getting involved in the hard-hitting action this weekend, along with likes of the entertaining 155 Sam Coote and Micro-specialist 851 Adam Storr.
Former UK Champion 551 Brett Jackson can also be guaranteed to be involved in the action
There are plenty of other small-car specialists in the field, including 104 Paul Brown Jr, 247 Jon Bailey and a welcome invasion of the Gravediggers team from Lancashire.
A welcome invasion from the Lancashire based Grave Diggers is bound to increase action levels!
Entertainers such as 93 Lewis Godfrey, 381 Sam Harbour, 571 Mark Quinsey, 691 Ryan Bartrum and 713 Ashley Ward will provide the crowd with plenty of thrills, and you can be sure there will be an awful lot of crashing going on amongst the rest of the locals in the big field.
Lady Bangers
The Lady Bangers have their first outing for over a month, with this being their penultimate qualifying round for the prestigious Gold Roof Championship.
17 Kelly Smith will be hoping to stay on all four wheels on Saturday night
Dominating the category so far in 2015 has been the returning 3 Danielle Hewitt who already has seven wins to her name this season. In contrast, her nearest challenger 477 Amy Brown is still seeking her first chequered flag of the year.
Can British Champion 3 Danielle Hewitt continue her dominaction of the formula?
The rest of the ladies will be looking to score as many points as they can to secure themselves a good position on the grid for their Gold Roof race. Defending champion 4 Steph Street will aim to kick-start her season, while twice runner-up 74 Caroline Garner will look to get back to winning ways having missed out last time out.
4 Steph Street will be looking to get back to winning ways
Norwich’s 818 Tiff Collins has been a revelation so far in 2015, putting some National Banger experience to good use, with two wins already to her name as she sits fourth in the points but second in the Gold Roof standings.
Norwich's 818 Tiff Collins has been a revelation in the Lady Bangers this year currently sitting in fourth place in the National Points and looking for a front row spot in the Gold Roof Fina
Local drivers 79 Stacy Lightfoot and 85 Kate Calver are always threats to the front of the field but sometimes lack consistency. Calver will look to take advantage of her white grade starting slot to secure a big points haul.
Free Fairground Rides for the Kids
There will be a free fairground ride at King's Lynn to help ensure that they have plenty to do before the meeting and between races. The good news for mum and dad is that going on the ride is free!
