BriSCA Formula One Stock Cars
Saturday’s meeting is the last before the cut-off for qualification for the end-of-season Shootout for the prestigious silver roof. As such, most of the big names will be in action, headed by this season’s dominator, British Champion 515 Frankie Wainman Jr, who has won two of three finals at Lynn this year.
515 Frankie Wainman jnr has been in great form in the F1 Stock Cars this year
Local superstar 16 Mat Newson will be looking to uphold home honour and make some inroads in the points, particularly the King’s Lynn track championship, which he won last year. Runner-up in the final at the end of May, he will need some big points hauls if he is to have any chance of catching Wainman.
New European Champion 4 Dan Johnson is also the current holder of the silver roof so may be looking to demonstrate his 2016 form before this season’s Shootout gets underway. Runner-up in last weekend’s European at Northampton was 445 Nigel Green who was a heat winner last time out at King’s Lynn and looks set qualify for his first Shootout this year. Has he turned the corner after a recent tricky spell, and does he have what it takes to mount a serious challenge for the silver roof.
Will 445 Nigel Green be back amongst the winners circle?
Comfortably in the top six of the points at present, 212 Danny Wainman is another who would love to make the breakthrough of becoming a genuine contender. Further down the table, 150 Mick Sworder should clinch his place in the series this weekend, as he currently occupies tenth spot. One of the sport’s most spectacular drivers, he is chasing his first win at Saddlebow Road in 2016.
Will 150 Mick Sworder take his first Lynn win of 2016 this Saturday
With 464 Luke Davidson unlikely to race, and 220 Will Hunter not booked to race at present, it opens the door for others to sneak into the top 12 at the last moment. Hoping to take advantage will be 555 Frankie Wainman Jr Jr.
Also in the field this weekend will be multiple World Champion 53 John Lund, rising star 422 Ben Riley and King’s Lynn specialist 335 Mark Woodhull. 224 Mark Gray has been banging in the wins on tarmac in his Tom Harris car recently – can he translate anything like that kind of form onto the loose?
King's Lynn specialist 335 Mark Woodhull is one of many top F1 dirivers capable of taking top honours on Saturday
Among the remaining runners are lower grade veterans 215 Geoff Nickolls, 280 Colin Nairn and 307 Tim Warwick who are all very popular among sections of the crowd. At the other end of the scale, 76 Aaron Cozens is always a strong performer on his local track, while 127 Austin Moore will look to continue his good progress since graduating from Ministox.
V8 Hot Stox
The V8 Hot Stox formula for slightly lower-powered Rover V8-engined cars makes its only visit of the year to King’s Lynn this weekend. Up for grabs will be the European Championship crown, defended by Warwickshire-based 328 Michael Boswell. A star-studded line-up also includes World Champion 1 Kevin Stuchbury and British Champion 211 Phoebe Wainman. Runner-up to Phoebe in the British Championship, 157 Adam Joyce will also fancy his chances.
Will 211 Pheobe Wainman have more to celebrate after Saturday's V8 European?
The most local driver racing in the category will be Huntingdon’s 222 Guy Jolly who has risen to superstar grade for the first time in 2016 and will be hoping for local support on the terraces.
288 Jon Brown has impressed this year, while 409 Luke Maw and 450 Sam Mee are also leading contenders.
Recent Ministox graduates 69 Matt Barnard, 154 Sophie Maynard, 242 Joe Nickolls and 333 Sam Roper will be out to impress by building on the experience they gained at the track in their junior days, while fellow former Ministox racer 554 Chloe Gwin makes her first competitive outing in the senior formulas.
An interesting name on the list is that of 77 Rudi Coleano, the former professional footballer who had a spell in BriSCA F1 a while back.
1300cc Stock Cars
Looking to make the most of their outing on the BriSCA F1 support bill, a big entry of 1300cc Stock Cars is expected in their last outing at the track before we stage the World Championship final next month.
Topping the entry is Suffolk-based defending World Champion 129 Will Morphey who will also have his father George (29) and uncle Luke (121) racing alongside him. Diss veteran 116 Diggy Smith scorched to a heat-and-final double in last weekend’s meeting, heading home Lynn driver 794 Chris Brown who had earlier won both his heats.
Norwich-based 333 Dan Weavers and brothers 149 Todd and 499 Gavin Payne will be looking to continue their fine form this weekend, while 317 Lauren Overy will be looking to get back to winning ways after a tougher time starting among the Red grade for the first time last time out.
333 Dan Weavers will be looking to continue his recent great run of form
The Blue grade is full of experienced drivers who race with the best, while the Yellow grade is packed with racers who have been Reds in the not too distant past, so could be big threats from there if luck goes their way. As is always the case now, a White grade well into double figures once again demonstrates the current health of the formula.
Fairground Ride
All of the fun of the fair will be at the Adrian Flux Arena this Saturday. The good news for mum and dad is that it is free for kids to go on and they can go on it as often as they like!!!
