Introduction
After a six week break, racing returns to the Adrian Flux Arena with a bang on the afternoon of Sunday 11 December (1pm) for the annual Nutcracker event. It will be hard-hitting Banger Racing action all the way, headlined by the Unlimited Bangers’ Nutcracker. In support is the biggest event of the year for 1500cc Bangers, their National Championship, as well as the under-16s in Junior Bangers.
Bookings are still available for this meeting.
There are currently 59 Unlimited Bangers, 66 1500cc Bangers and 22 Junior Bangers booked in to race.
Drivers who are not listed but would like to race are advised to book in asap on 01553 771111 / 07939 580652
Drivers please note that the pits open at 10am and your early arrival will be appreciated. Drivers turning up in the last hour could well find themselves missing their first race.
Unlimited Bangers
After a great night’s action in front of an enormous crowd at the Halloween Spooktacular, expect more of the same in the Nutcracker. The winner of the British Under-25 title that night, 551 Brett Jackson, will be competing, hoping to continue his strong run of form in what has been a very committed year of racing for the Peterborough man.
Peterborough's 551 Brett Jackson has put in a great season of racing in 2016.
Rear-wheel drive experts 22 Dave Vincent and 160 Shayn Winsor (who is defending the Nutcracker title) should be among the frontrunners, as will World of Shale runner-up 830 Lee ‘Stretch’ White. The latter currently leads the National Points standings and will be aiming to take another step towards the silver roof, with only the Christmas meeting left after the weekend’s action.
Outgoing National Points champion 673 Darren Fendley will be looking to sign off in style, while twice former champion 338 Terry Garrod will be hoping to keep the pressure on White in this year’s standings.
338 Terry Garrod will be looking to keep the pressure on 830 Lee White at the top of the National Points
Garrod is also currently second in the prestigious Entertainers League, but being some 170 points behind younger brother 399 Jack Garrod, his hopes aren’t high for that particular crown. Jack will be looking to seal the title with another action-packed performance in the big rear-wheel drive machinery.
Other front-runners in the Entertainers League who will be taking part in the Nutcracker include young gun 178 Kieran Bowman and veteran 811 Pete Winter, who is counting down the meetings to his “Pistol Pete’s One Last Shot” big retirement bash next year.
811 Pete Winter will be in action in his final Nutcracker
A large contingent of the sport’s biggest crashers will also be on track. Travelling from south of London once more are the Team Sowter/Filmer crew of 288 Carl Sowter, 388 Taylor Sowter and 884 Tom Filmer. From Essex, Gladiators pairing 206 Phil Milner and 306 Nicky Bell will liven up proceedings, and making the same journey are 513 Shaun Harvey, 514 Charlie Taylor and 768 Danny McSweeney of the Shunters.
From closer to home, there is a very strong entry from the Gypsy Crew, with the Gremlins also set to be in action, while 399 Jonny Atkin has booked in early for top Lincolnshire outfit the Mad Hatters.

1500cc Bangers
The long-running National Championship carries gold cross roof colours, making it a prestigious title, for which the locals have been qualifying all year. Heading the entry, and going for an unprecedented fourth successive triumph in the event is 338 Terry ‘Wingnut’ Garrod. He will surely start as favourite although there are plenty more capable winners on the grid. They include his brothers 337 Ashley and 339 Jack, while fellow Team Jackpot runner 340 Wes Freestone will be attempting to qualify via the last-chance race.
Second to Wingnut in the qualifying points chart was 88 Lyndon Stark who is riding the crest of a wave, having had his best ever season in the sport. It culminated in him winning the World of Shale’s gold stripes – can he add a gold cross now too?
Can 88 Lyndon Stark add yet another golden roof colour to his roof on 11 December?
Further leading contenders who are doubling up in both classes on the day are 757 Callum Gill, 830 Lee White and 399 Jonny Atkin who is joined in this one by his Mad Hatters team-mate 390 David Gibson.
Then there are the 1500cc specialists, including the likes of 55 Ricky Ivatt, 319 Shaun Clarke and 566 Tony Pallett. The latter in particular is ultra quick when out front, so a good grid draw could see him land the title and emulate his illustrious father Geoff who lifted the crown under its previous guise of the Bangerstox World Championship on two occasions.
Can 566 Tony Pallett follow in the footsteps of his father Geoff with victory in the National Championship
Former champion 601 Chris Medler could be on the hunt to add to his 2012 crown, although being placed fourth in the Entertainers League, he may equally choose to get more involved in the crashing side of the action. There are plenty of qualifiers who are well versed at that, such as 10 Ben Collins, 247 Jon Bailey and 271 Ashlun Woods.
Will 2012 champion 601 Chris Meddler be looking for another title - or will he have his eyes on improving his current fourth place position in the Entertainer League?
With a packed entry for the last-chance qualifier too, it looks like being one not to be missed.
Junior Bangers
In the Junior Bangers’ penultimate outing of the season, 997 Wayne Cottrill will be aiming to make inroads into 364 Bradley Lee’s lead in the National Points standings, as he bids to keep hold of the silver roof. After dominating 2015, Cottrill has only scored one win so far in 2016 so will be hoping to add to that tally.
Elsewhere, there is another welcome visit from the West Midlands for 90 Joey Holmes, while the usual local suspects will be aiming to keep him honest.
A relatively recent convert to Junior Bangers after a career in Ministox, 328 Ben Nichols will be hard to beat from the front of the grid, while novice driver 999 Louie Cottrill is another one to watch among the white grade.
