Introduction
After a five-week sojourn, action returns to the Adrian Flux Arena, King’s Lynn, with a packed afternoon of Banger Racing on Sunday (6 December, 1pm) for the annual Nutcracker event, featuring a big turnout of Unlimited Bangers, 1500cc Bangers and Junior Bangers.
There are currently 51 Unlimited Bangers, 76 1500cc Bangers, & 24 Junior Bangers booked in.
Please note that any driver turning up who is not booked in to race will not receive any start money or complimentary admissions if they are entitled to them.
Any driver who is booked in to race and who does not race and fails to cancel their booking will have to pay a fine before they are allowed to race again.
Bookings and cancelations can be made by E Mailing trackstar@norfolkarena.co.uk or by phoning / texting 07939 580652.
Unlimited Bangers
The man to beat in Unlimited Bangers is three-time World of Shale Champion 160 Shayn Winsor who secured that record third title back in September. But there are plenty more superstars in a line-up containing all of Norfolk’s finest, including former WoS Champion 247 Lee ‘Bro’ Clarke who is as good as anyone on the Saddlebow Road shale, both in terms of dishing out hits and scorching to race wins.
247 Lee "Bro" Clarke is as good as anyone on the Saddlebow Road shale
Supreme Champion 22 Dave Vincent is always among the frontrunners, while World Champion 673 Darren Fendley and National Points Champion 338 Terry Garrod are likely to have the chase for this year’s silver roof in the forefront of their minds. Fendley currently holds a healthy advantage over 337 Ashley Garrod, with Terry just behind.
Defending points champion 338 Terry Garrod will be looking for a good points haul
For 390 David Gibson and his Mad Hatters team-mate 392 Sam Baines, the focus will be firmly on the Entertainers League, as Baino closes in on his first major individual title.
A big entry of Gypsy Crew runners, including the likes of 273 Kevin McClagish, 372 Barry Overland and 753 Billy Cunningham will surely go out with all guns blazing as they continue the feud for local bragging rights with the Predators. 79 Ricky Twell and 479 Joel Allen, among others, will give the latter outfit plenty of firepower.
The war between the Gypsy Crew and the Predators looks set to continue this Sunday
Also sure to be in entertaining mode are the four-strong Team Sowter/Filmer effort who once again make the trek from near Gatwick Airport to have some fun on the Adrian Flux Arena shale. 288 Carl and 388 Taylor Sowter, plus 883 Jack and 884 Tom Filmer will be ones to watch.
Further entertainers come in the form of 222 Matty High, 604 Ross Cooper and brothers 790 Nathan and 791 Nicky Young, while it’s great to see another smattering of Bears and Gladiators in the entry. Judging by the action served up by the big cars on Halloween Carnival Night, they should provide plenty of big crashes, thrills and spills.
1500cc Bangers
The National Championship has a rich history dating back to its former guise as the Bangerstox World Championship, held at Swaffham through the 1990s, and therefore carries the prize of a gold cross to adorn the victor’s roof for the next year. Former champions 338 Terry Garrod, 328 Daniel Lathan, 601 Chris Medler and 37 Dave Lewis will all be in the hunt for honours once again, as will the likes of 566 Tony Pallett and 322 Thomas Fox, who we’ll be delighted to see a lot more of at the Adrian Flux Arena in 2016.
Medler and Garrod are two of several drivers racing in both National Banger classes, including all of those involved in the chase for National Points and Entertainers League glory. The effort involved should not be underestimated so we wish them all the best of luck on track.
The first race of the day for the 1500s will be a last-chance qualifier for the National Championship. Among the big field taking part in that, it is pleasing to see a number of recent graduates from Junior Bangers and indeed Lady Bangers, as well as other newcomers. 123 Kieran Gray has already impressed in his debut senior season. He is joined by fellow recent graduates 61 Ross Klyn, 71 James Unwin, 203 Josh Moldjourd and 212 Jack Maryon. 247 Jon Bailey, 757 Callum Gill and 952 Brandon Baker have been building their experience for a year or two now but it is still not so long ago that they were racing in the Juniors. From Lady Bangers come 70 Sophie Unwin, 514 Sherrie Martin and 611 Carly Spiers.
Last time out in the 1500 Bangers, 271 Ashlun Woods proved the man to beat. He will aim to continue that kind of form on Sunday afternoon.
Junior Bangers
Bookings for the Juniors are always a little bit slow coming in but we’re expecting a healthy turnout at least in the mid-teens. Their National Points crown has been long since wrapped up by English Champion 997 Wayne Cottrill, but the beauty of the formula is the constant conveyor belt of talent it produces to replace those graduating to senior formulas.
Amongst the most experienced runners now are 93 Luke Nieuwenburg and 660 Daniel Lambe, while 308 Adam Richardson has developed into one of the most consistent frontrunners, having only debuted in the formula just over 12 months ago.
Last time out, wins went to 608 Lenny Murkin and 61 John Klyn in the heats before 487 Owen Ketteringham scored his first ever win in the final. But keep an eye out for the likes of 186 Brett Gedney and 854 Aidan Storr, plus first-time visitor 840 Jake Waddingham, who may well try to upset the applecart.
