Preview - Matt Black

An incredible 32 Big Vans descend on the Norfolk Arena on Monday where it truly will be utter chaos with these big machines piling into each other throughout the afternoon.  Old Transits, Iveco’s, Mercedes Sprinters and possibly one or two weird and wonderful vans will be on track and be given one last crash before they get sent to the scrap yard.  Normally one of the highlights of the year, and with a bigger booking last than in previous seasons this could be a highly entertaining afternoon of hard hitting van banger racing, with the aim of the game to write as many off as possible throughout the day, and then we get to see a Destruction Derby at the end, where the aim of the game will literally be to be the last van running, which is something that is always a highly entertaining watch and one that often saves the best of the day until last, so make sure you stay behind and support your favourite right until the end as they aim to be the last driver standing.  We always get a good show from our big vans, and this Monday should really be no different, especially with the list of drivers that we have on show!! 51 James Licquorice leads the line, the 2024 Entertainer League Champion has carried on where he left off at the start of this season with some devastating displays throughout the early part of the campaign which certainly wasn’t planned as he has been very busy off track.  However due to his heavy hitting style of racing he finds himself at the top of the tree again for the entertainers league, and at the moment by quite some distance!! He will certainly be one too watch on Monday, and if there is a driver who is geared up for Bank Holiday Mondays it is definitely “The Duck”.  At the other end of the spectrum you have 337 Ashley Garrod who currently leads the national points here at Trackstar, “Pretty Boy” will be out in action in the 1600cc National Bangers and the Big Van Bangers, so expect Ash to be doing his best to score heavily in both formulas, and he is a driver who normally does grab a couple of wins in the Big Vans, which will certainly aid his cause for sure.  He will be a driver who will be worth following this year as he looks to grab the Silver Roof once again here at King’s Lynn.  Our 2 Litre Banger World Champion 577 Alfie Lee will be in action in the Big Vans, and Fonzo is a driver who absolutely loves to entertain in the Big Vans, and I’d expect a strong showing from the holder of the Gold Roof here.  Another driver who will look to get stuck in is 39 Ryan Knibbs who currently sits in second place in the entertainer league with us, and he is also a driver who is featuring in two formulas on Monday, and is certainly keen to impress this season and try to cement his position in the Entertainers League with a good display, joining those boys on the entertainers front will be 996 Jack Wright who has been another in top form so far this season.  Jack was in quality form back at the small van meeting, and you will often see Jack in a themed car or van, so for the small vans it was Postman Pat, for Mondays event his Big Van is Peppa Pig themed, and he and his dad and the team always do a great job on the theme, and no doubt it will again standout and be a fans favourite like he always is.  It’s always great to see the ladies represented in any form of racing, and we have the amazing 626 Kayleigh Sanders who will be doing it for the girls on Monday, another popular driver who gets a lot of support and Kayleigh is a very handy driver indeed but she also enjoys a bit of a crash, so you definitely need to keep an eye on her as the afternoon goes on.  721 Daniel Clarke has started the season well, and he loves these types of meetings and the Saunders Brothers will also be drivers to keep and eye on throughout the day!! Both Scott and Lee enjoy to mix it up a bit, and normally are able to keep vans going throughout the afternoon and they will almost certainly be in the mix when we get to the business end of the Destruction Derby at the end of the day.  These vans really are good value too watch, and you will definitely not be going home disappointed after watching these drivers put their vans through there paces one last time!!

Supporting the Big Vans are the lively 1600cc Bangers with some heavy hitters out on track, the Blue and Black team will be on a mission throughout the day, and it certainly will be a wonder if they will renew acquaintances with THP7 come Monday.  It’s great to welcome back 730 Deane Mayes, 550 Phil Jackson and 644 Alfie Sime who have all been out for a short period through various different things, however each one of them will add plenty to the meeting for sure.  The Giddings boys are back in action on Monday, and they will be worth a watch throughout the afternoon.  512 Kieron Rowe is currently flying high in the 1600cc national points, and I expect him to have a very good day at the office, and he will certainly be one too watch on the points front as the afternoon develops.  19 Reggie Turnbull has had an up and down season so far and surely it won’t be long before he has a win again around here, the pace of the car has been very promising, however he has been bang out of luck regarding punctures, drive shafts, steering arm damage, you name it he has had it this season so far.  349 Daniel Copland, 566 Tony Pallett and 248 Jamie Blything have all had wins round here this year, and will all be drivers who fancy their chances on Monday, they will have to see where they go from their new grades but I’m sure all three are more than capable of going well from their respective positions and no doubt we’ll see a strong showing from all three come Monday afternoon.

The Reliant Robins join us for more action on Monday and “The One” Daniel Douglas will be looking for more wins and more trophies to take home to fill his expanding trophy cabinet.  The 553 pilot is a multi champion and is definitely the man to beat around the country at the moment, however there will be challengers, and the likes of 117 Lee Reynolds are having a great season so far, and he could be one who could make a challenge to “The One” Daniel Douglas come Monday.

Rounding out our afternoon are the lively Junior Bangers, these talented 11 to 16 year olds will be looking to once again steal the show.  The likes of 609 Levi Murkin will be the one leading the charge, and his points averages of the year have been outstanding, and it has often been seen that Levi is featured in the top three throughout the night, so expect another chance of a hat trick.  The likes of 08 Taylor Morton, 478 Morgan Bailey and 442 Stanley Crittenden have started the season well and seem more than comfortable in their higher grades for sure.  57 Swaley Douglas has been a standout star in his opening months of racing, and is already on the rise in the grades after some very high class performances this season.  Expect the juniors to be very good all night, and with nearly 50 of them it won’t be easy to win a race at all.  All in all we are on for a great days entertainment, and one that we are very much looking forward to hear at the Norfolk Arena.

It will be great to see as many of you as possible here on Monday, so please don’t hesitate and wait, get your advance tickets now and join us for some great Bank Holiday entertainment on Monday.

All The Best, see you there.

Matt
