After two great Stock Car fixtures, it’s the return of the Bangers on the back of two fantastic Icebreaker meetings.
The 2L Bangers have had a long hiatus, with their last appearance being way back in October. That was the first round in their qualifying process for the 2 Litre World Final here in July, and a Final win for 210 Callum McKee among other strong results sees him top the charts and although having been upgraded to yellows, will be looking to replicate that success once again. 701 Riley Marsh made a great impression on his debut taking a heat win, whilst the very talented 830 Lee White currently sits third in the standings. ‘Stretch’ will be looking to put a strong shift in to gain a big points haul. 128 Andrew Shipp was also a heat winner back in October and will be among the front runners, as will the likes of 12 Troy Cobbett, 248 Jamie Blything, 552 Karl Douglas, 337 Terry Garrod and 28 Mac Bell. The current 2L Shale World Champion, 178 Kieran Bowman will be present, and he can do no wrong behind the wheel of a banger at the moment having just taken his fourth podium spot in a major title in the past 8 months recently at Mildenhall where he took second place in the Unlimited Supreme Championship. He is joined by teammate 519 Lee Middleton who is among one of the fastest Mondeo pilots in the business. 64 Danny Lee will be one to keep an eye on. The Lee family are notorious for being fast competitors and Danny will be looking to maintain that reputation.
It is not just the race points that are on offer, there’s rewards for those that put on a show. 828 Jordan Sharpe heads 214 Connor Osborn in the ranks, and they were locked in a battle all season long for the main entertainers spoils in a thrilling exchange. Unfortunately at present, neither are booked in, but Trackstar Driver of the Year 51 James Licquorice sits third in the standings and has been in impeccable form so far this year. There is an influx of Scrapyard Screamers booked in for action. They appear to being doing a tour of the tracks in the 2 Litres which they are renowned for being a dominant force in - their ranks have been boosted with 133 Malakie Cullum taking the step up from Junior Bangers where he showed a lot of promise. The Screamers were most recently in action at Taunton’s Spring Open, and we welcome a couple of West-Country visitors in the form of 908 David Brown and 280 Harry Ricketts. Whilst David has a vast amount of experience here at the Adrian Flux Arena, having been a winner here previously, Harry makes his first appearance not only here, but only shale itself and it will be interesting to see how he fairs. Predators man 378 Jack Bailey makes a rare 2L appearance and he’ll be looking to get stuck in whilst another team booked in with strong numbers are the Outsiders. 73 Dean Cruickshanks is a lively performer and will be battling drivers such as Aftermath entertainer 603 Jon Cooper, 687 Mark Cross and 910 Jack Rookard for those race awards to climb the entertainer charts.
The 1600 Bangers return off the back of that superb Icebreaker meeting in February where THP7 were the overall winners headed by Saloon Stock Car World Champion 730 Deane Mayes, and he is set to feature once again this evening. Joining him is son ‘Bubba’, 30 Brandon Mayes who was a heat winner back in February and is consistently fast in this class. 566 Tony Pallett was also a heat winner at the Icebreaker and will be looking for another strong campaign having been high up in the standings last year. 12 Troy Cobbett was the man to beat in the 1600s last year showing brilliant pace and will be among the contenders tonight. It’s great to see 69 Brad Bartram back after a slight absence from the raceways. Brad has been one of the key performers on the Trackstar roster over the past few seasons and can certainly get a motor around the Norfolk shaleway, yet equally can crash with the best which was evident last year as he scored high in both points charts. 479 Joel Allen was the Final winner at the Icebreaker in February and looked particularly quick. He’ll be hoping for more of the same in a scoop of points early on. 356 Sam Hildon is always there or there abouts in this class, whilst 19 Reggie Turnbull has been very impressive in the 1600s since his step up from Junior Bangers midway through last season and will be one to keep an eye on.
Blue & Black were on a mission at the Icebreaker, taking on anyone they came across seeing them lift the Entertainers title. Captain 551 Brett Jackson was also a heat winner on that occasion but currently we only see a couple of drivers representing the colours booked in so far. You’ll expect to see them throwing the front bumper in however. 910 Jack Rookard is always reliable for putting on a show, often opting to go on oppo to liven a race up. 557 Liam Jaggard is another that doesn’t shy away from a crash and will join the list of those looking to put a show on. 713 Oscar Preston makes his adult debut here in a well presented Mk5 Vauxhall Astra having graduated from Junior Bangers where he didn’t mind a crash.
The Junior Bangers are set to feature. The perfect ground for the starts of the future to hone their race-craft before moving on to their next venture like Malakie and Oscar. The youngsters have had a busy schedule recently and it’s testament to them and their teams behind the scene that we have another strong booking list. Trackstar Points Champion 750 Rhys Parrin was in superb form over the winter meetings, highlighting why he is at the top of the class, managing to pick a heat win up along the way on February 4th. 85 Jade Ellis has come on leaps and bounds over the past few months and looks to be a solid contender this season, taking the Final win at the Unlimited Icebreaker meeting in January. 920 Rhys Medley looks to be a great addition to the formula. He took an Alcomers win on his debut in January and followed that with a Consolation win two weeks later, whilst another newcomer, 08 Taylor Morton also shows promise with a heat win in February. 307 Luke Thompson was the Final winner last time out and will look to continue that form whilst elders 609 Levi Murkin and 78 Lee Macey Jnr have been on victory lane over the last couple of meetings.
The 1300 Stock Cars conclude the fixture with their 2023 White & Yellows Championship being the showcase event. 502 Tyler Bloomfield won the final last time out and had a good set of results all night and will be confident of a similar feat again tonight. 573 Shane Moat was very quick in his new Vauxhall Tigra B and will be one to keep an eye on, whilst 401 Riley Shinn and 412 Jordan Gay also had strong showings and will be looking for more of the same. There is a full race format on top of that championship, and you’d expect 473 John Moat, 167 Jimmy Morris and World Champion 303 Jacob Bromley, 535 Connor Sheldrake and 149 Todd Payne to be those among the places. 382 Joe Bamford made the switch from BRISCA F2 Stock Cars this year and had some good results for his first time out last meeting in a nicely presented Corsa C, and will be one to look out for as he gets to grips with the formula.
We hope you enjoy another top night of action and look forward to seeing you at our Easter fixtures. Saturday features the Unlimited Bangers racing for their East Anglian Championship and then Monday it’s the turn of the annual Wacky Races meeting which always provides great entertainment.
